Keeper league... Harper over Tulowitzki?

Postby DaNamesBond22 » Thu Mar 21, 2013 12:20 am

H2H, 5x5 stats plus TB, OPS, and hits.

Yahoo ranks. These are NOT auction value dollar amounts. I play a normal league. These are just yahoo's ranks for reference.

Other options would include J Upton (23) and Longoria (22).

I'd probably have the opportunity to grab these guys. Tulowitzki (16) vs Harper (19) are the guys I'm most conflicted about.

The problem is I drafted Tulo last year and his injury killed me. While good for a SS, Harper can put up similar numbers, especially in the upcoming years. Tulo gets hurt all the time and hasn't played since May, which is worrisome. I just have a feeling I'd regret the opportunity to grab Harper and keep him...

What do you guys think?

Go with Harper. Much stronger keeper and no annual injury worries.

I don't like Harper for that price. Play for this year, not the future.

I'm picking Tulo for 16...that's a steal. Harper for 19 is a decent deal, but only if you don't plan on winning this year. OF is shallow this year, but they come along every year.

I'd probably go with harper unless inflation is really high in your league.

EDIT: Maybe I wasn't clear enough. Those numbers are NOT dollar values. I don't do an auction type league. Just a normal league. Those are the yahoo ranks for reference. Not sure if this info influences it much or not...

In a keeper, not many I'd rather have than Harper

oh yeah dude, if it's a keeper league and there's none of those dollar values involved, then you definitely wanna go with harper. look at it like you're gonna have him for ~5/+ years or something and even if tulo stays on the field and does a .310/27/95/10 and harper is less than that, you're still going to be in a better position for next year.... and the year after that, and so on adn so forth.

harper's a 2nd round pick in regular non-keeper drafts, which i think is a bit high for me.... but in a keeper draft? holy cow are you sure he's gonna be there in the 2nd round? if people are drafting to get keepers to establish the core of their team for multiple years going forward, harper has to be on the top of people's minds.

but yeah, i'd make a case that you're even in a better position to go with harper than tulo this year because he's got that renown injury history over the last few years, so there isn't even really any inner debate here... this is all harper.

thanks for the help w/mine, sir. have a good one!

In a keeper league, Harper is more valuable than Tulo, Justin Upton and Longoria. But it's closer over the first two than Longoria. Granted, you want to keep an eye toward the future, and Harper could be all-world for the next several years. But I always play to win this year. So for this year, will Haper be better than Tulo and Upton? Maybe, maybe not. I think either of those two could easily be more valuable than Harper this year. The keeper factor weighs heavily in Harper's favor, but I don't think it's a slam dunk.

Help with mine?
