Fantasy GM Novice - Help

Postby Lokai922 » Sat Mar 16, 2013 10:39 am

I have fantasy sports experience but this is my first season as a fantasy baseball GM and find myself overwhelmed a little by the amount of information. The draft was auto-pick, 12-teams, HTH each category....batting avg, runs, SB, HR, RBI, ERA, WHIP, SV, K, Wins. I look at my team and at first pass I think it's okay but I am sure there are glaring holes a seasoned veteran would identify immediately.

25 players on roster, start 22 - - 9 pitchers, 7 Infield, 5 Outfield, 1 Utility.

C Yadier Molina, StL C
1B Kendrys Morales, Sea 1B, DH
2B Robinson Cano, NYY 2B
3B Brett Lawrie, Tor 3B
SS Starlin Castro, ChC SS
2B/SS Asdrubal Cabrera, Cle SS
1B/3B Mike Moustakas, KC 3B
OF Josh Hamilton, LAA OF
OF Shin-Soo Choo, Cin OF
OF Alejandro De Aza, CWS OF
OF Carl Crawford, LAD OF
OF Coco Crisp, Oak OF
UTIL Victor Martinez, Det C, DH
P Justin Verlander, Det SP
P Matt Cain, SF SP
P Chris Sale, CWS SP
P Dan Haren, Wsh SP
P Jake Peavy, CWS SP
P Homer Bailey, Cin SP
P Ryan Madson, LAA RP
P A.J. Burnett, Pit SP
P Casey Janssen, Tor RP
Bench Lance Berkman, Tex 1B
Bench Nick Markakis, Bal OF
Bench Kyuji Fujikawa, ChC RP

Comments are appreciated even if they are "You're in trouble with that team.". :-D

Thanks.

welcome to the Cafe ;-D

Looks like a decent roster, great starting pitchers middle of the road offense maybe a little light on power and a big hole in saves as long as Madson/Janssen are on the shelf and Fujikawa is 2nd in line to Marmol.

Would you think there is anyone on the roster that I should not consider trading? I see the missing power and should probably look to fill that hole, I assume via trade or just take a wait and see approach, maybe steal a free agent who gets hot.

Thanks for the feedback. As I gain more GM experience I'm sure I can provide some above novice comments.

Discount speed & average in h2h leagues, so I'd move anyone where their saving grace is speed I'd move them for power and average is very fickle on a week to week basis so I'd take a player with power even if his average sucked. If you're going to have 2 catchers on your roster make sure you're at least getting maximum at bats out of the position, but I could see moving one of them. Find some saves either in a trade or off waivers, you might have to load your bench with potential saves guys until someone gets a job.
