Older Players - Bounceback Value

Postby BigZ38 » Mon Mar 11, 2013 3:12 pm

Obviously in Fantasy Baseball the new and shiny is most exciting, but there are always veterans who have been written off, that legitimately just had a down year or two, and suddenly they're fantasy kryptonite.

Who are you looking at as potential bounceback guys? As a bench guy I'm hoping to nab Youkilis (1B, 3B), who with Yahoo is ranked in the 230s.

Also, even though he isn't that old (29), I'm looking at Clay Buchholz. His 2010-2011 were solid, and his first two months were atrocious last year, but he was good to solid the rest of the year. Buchholz is ranked in the 210s in yahoo. Could be an excellent 5th starter for a team that outperforms his draft slot.

Who are you looking at?

Justin Morneau. He's gonna go all 2011 Lance Berkman this year. This is the first time in 2 years he has entered the offseason healthy. Being able to focus on a normal offseason regimen rather than a rehab makes a world of difference.

Morneau - High floor but I don't think the ceiling is as high as some others.
Utley - easily the best old dude to target, he looks completely 100% healthy and is going way too late right now.
Michael Young but only if you get him dirt cheap like he is going.
Rivera - He breaks all the rules
Berkman - Dirt cheap so good risk reward type.

Old dudes I'm avoiding

Halladay - Going too early, lost more velocity.
Jeter - I've found him underrated most of his career to be honest (for fantasy, not reality), but I don't like his odds this year.
VMart - going way too early. This is where I draft him without the risk from coming back from injury.
Ortiz - No thanks, that is an injury with a full season recovery.
Howard - His skillset is too pedestrian to expect him to bring value where he is being taken.
Beltran - Another guy going too early to bring back much value.

Not sure if you'd consider him "bounce back" or not but...Michael Morse...guy can flat out rake. I think the fences have been moved in at safeco as well...
