Hammel, Jackson or Cobb?

Postby Brizee8 » Sun Mar 10, 2013 12:18 pm

I currently own Jason Hammel, but Edwin Jackson and Alex Cobb are available. Should I keep Hammel or pick up one of the others?

Thanks!

Cobb is an intriguing add. Once DL are updated I have a feeling Perez will start the year on DL move him there and snag Cobb. I'd rather just have Cobb. Are there any closers available at all? Any bench bats you don't need?

Here are my hitters:

C: Salvador Perez
1B: Ryan Howard
2B: Chase Utley
3B: Ryan Zimmerman
SS: Ben Zobrist
MI: Jose Altuve
CI: Manny Machado
OF: Giancarlo Stanton
OF: Jose Bautista
OF: Josh Reddick
OF: Dexter Fowler
OF: Emilio Bonifacio
UTIL: Everth Cabrera
BE: Michael Cuddyer
BE: JJ Hardy
BE: Jonathan Lucroy

I was thinking about dropping Hardy for Josh Rutledge. Adam Eaton (outfield) and Adam Dunn are also available.

As for closers, the only ones available are Bruce Rondon, Carlos Marmol and Kyuji Fujikawa.

Do you think I need to hold onto Bonifacio for his speed? Is there anyone that can go for a pitcher?

Rutledge needs to be rostered along with Cobb. I'd probably jettison the extra catcher and Cabrera for them. Looks like you could use the power. Cabrera might stay unrostered. Hardy won't...he is a 25-30 homer bat outta SS that carries value. I like Rutledge due to his power/speed potential and his combo 2b/SS. Everth Cabrera does have speed but that's all he'll give you and you already have enough MI options in what you will have.

Ditch Cabrera/Lucroy for Rutledge + Cobb great moves if you ask me. I realize Lucroy has upside but you have a great starting catcher and with such few bench slots...there ya go.

Do you think I have enough steals if I drop Cabrera?

Cobb, without a doubt. His upside far exceeds the others. Tampa knows how to get the best out of their pitchers. Too much pressure on Hammel to keep his numbers up, while Jackson is what he is.

This was a good line I read about Cobb:

"Sometimes you need to speculate on a breakout and Cobb is as good a bet as any to do just that."

I'd go Cobb.
