Final 2-yr Keeper...Jones, VMart, Holland, Niese...WHIR

Postby whoson1st0 » Wed Mar 06, 2013 11:13 am

12 team mixed 5x5 league

I am trying to decide on my final keepers. From this list, I must choose at least one, to be kept for 2 yrs (with his salary going up $5 in 2014). The rest are optional, and can be kept for one yr at the salary listed.

Adam Jones - $23
Victor Martinez - $6 (only DH eligible!)
Greg Holland - $8
Jonathan Niese - $8
Doug Fister - $6

My original thought was Fister for 2 yrs, the rest for 1 yr, but now I am doubting if I am getting much value from any of these guys vs their auction value.

Thoughts?

Thanks for your advice!

I like them all for this year (maybe a little less on Martinez who's value is really diminished without being C eligible)

But I don't know if I like any of them for next year at $5 dollars more.

I guess if I had to choose it would be Adam Jones for $28.

What's the budget in this league and can you give us some comparables on prices in this league?

Standard $260 budget. Last year I got all these guys $5 cheaper than they are listed for here. Hard to compare with similar players since the auction values fluctuate so much for those fringe type players; but all seem to be close to what their auction value would be, give or take a few $ depending on when they are called out. RP's cap out at mid-upper teens but can get some as low as a couple bucks. SP honestly vary way too much to compare.

Thanks for your help with mine.
Considering that you have to keep the guy for two years, I'd go with Jones as well.
More expensive than the others, obviously, but he is really improving and I think he will continue to.
The others are a bit more questionable, and even though you'd be spending less, you'd have a higher risk of wasting that money.

I think the choice is between Jones and Holland. I agree with the reasoning above - I think Jones at 28, although not the biggest bargain, is the most sure to be still worth it in two year, so I would go with him, but Holland would also be a good choice, with his nasty stuff and the Royals improving squad in a weak division. But closers fluctuate SO much, that would put me over the edge to Jones, the safe pick.

Thank you to soty for hooking me up with another awesome sig!

I would reluctantly go with Jones (aside from last year, he is always the 'breakout' star that never does)... but a close second to Fister. His K's were down last year, but with that offense behind him, if he can strike out a few more guys, I think he would be well worth the money.

If you have to choose one, I would say Adam Jones. But I don't necessarily like the idea of paying him 11% of your budget. The others would be overpriced--Love fister but not at $12

Jones, no doubt. He's got the upside to make that dollar value back and then some, and the rest of the list very meh.

Agree on Jones. The $5 hit makes less of a dent in his salary and he has a high floor, where the other guys could become useless.
