POLL - drafting players with no MLB experience

Postby chris8 » Wed Mar 06, 2013 4:19 am

There has been a big discussion about whether or not we should change what was in place before the draft started, namely that players with no MLB experience are not eligible for the draft.

There are three options; as Ender rightly pointed out in the thread, the only players this will probably affect are Japanese imports.

Please indicate your preference here, today. This poll will only run today, so we can make a decision and move on.

I voted all are eligible . If you want to take a risk on a guy burning a hole in your lineup for a month hoping you get lucky and he is the next Trout go for it. I think you are smoking the good stuff if you think it is a good idea but hey, whatever floats your boat!

Current vote is actually all 8 in favour of all being eligible (the one who is on the poll as dissenting has PM-ed me to say they would like to change their vote to that).

I don't see any problem as long as they are in Yahoo's database.

My personal preference -- at the beginning of a draft -- has always been to just go with whatever Yahoo has in the db (freezing it at some point for consistency). In the past, I'm pretty sure we haven't even been that restrictive. I'm almost certain that some major prospect (Heyward?) was not listed in Yahoo, but he was still drafted in Cafe leagues, with the understanding that his drafter would get him if he was added to Yahoo before the season starts.

But whatever the rule is, is fine, as long as it's clear from the start of the draft, which is why I brought the subject up early. So I'm voting no, even though it's quixotic.

OK, there are 12 people out of 14 who have voted. I have spoken to the two who voted no, and they are OK with going with the majority. So anyone who is in the Yahoo database is eligible to be drafted.
