Do I pick-up Niese?

Postby Milkmaid17 » Tue Mar 05, 2013 4:54 pm

Have 10 team H2H 5X5 team with the following pitching staff:

SP - Zach Greinke
SP - Josh Johnson
SP - Ryan Vogelsong
SP - Anibal Sanchez
SP - Tim Lincecum
SP - Hyun Jin-Ryu
SP - Jason Vargas

RP - Aroldis Chapman
RP - Joel Hanrahan

I know, not the greatest. Not the worst, not the greatest. Jonothan Niese just became available and I am sorely tempted...but who to drop. Ryu is my knee-jerk reaction, but he was the one gamble I allowed myself this year. Vargas is next on the list, but his spring training is promising. Johnson's ratings are all over the place depending on who you ask...so. Anyone have an opinion? It would be much appreciated. I know I need more K's in the line-up, but until the season begins in earnest, Niese may be the best I can do. All thoughts appreciated, fantasy rookie.

The only guy there (other than Ryu) that I'd consider dropping for Neise is Sanchez. I like the ratio help you're likely to get from Neise there over the handful of Ks that separates them.

Hold off for now.

Try to trade...free up a spot or dump a useless bat.

Vargas has sneaky value.

I like Vargas also. I think you are fine right now.

Personally I would drop Vargas for Niese. This is a no-brainer for me as Vargas has a mediocre track record and did not suddenly 'break out' last year. I doubt he'll repeat those numbers. 2nd choice would be to drop Ryu since he's completely unproven. I'd be happy to drop either one for Niese.
