I need some advice/suggestions for keepers for a standard 5x5 roto league with 12 teams
Our keeper system is a little different than normal. Teams can keep up to 5 players. There is no set limit on years you can keep a player, but there is a draft round penalty, and it doubles every year. For example, I drafted Mike Trout in the 20th round last year. He will be my 19th round pick this year, 17th round in 2014, 13th round in 2015, and 5th round in 2016. First round picks cannot be kept at all. Free agent picks ups would start as 23rd round pick. So its the type of league where elite talent is not kept too often and a lot of the value in a keeper comes from his round.
That said, here is my team, with the keeper rounds in parentheses for 2013, 2014, etc.
Mike Trout (19,17,13,5) Giancarlo Stanton (16,8) Chris Sale (23,21,17,9) Adam Wainwright (16,12,4) Anthony Rizzo (23,21,17,9) Jose Altuve (23,21,17,9) Jordan Zimmerman (7,5,1) Jesus Montero (21,17,9) Victor Martinez (23,21,17,9) Yoenis Cespedes (9,7,3) Jarrod Parker (23,21,17,9) Jeremy Hellickson (11,9,5) Jurickson Profar (23,21,17,9) Matt Harvey (23,21,17,9) Salvador Perez (23,21,17,9) Dayan Viciedo (23,21,17,9)
id be pretty tempted to go young and just grab Mike Trout (19,17,13,5) Giancarlo Stanton (16,8) Chris Sale (23,21,17,9) Anthony Rizzo (23,21,17,9) Jose Altuve (23,21,17,9)
great value there and plenty of picks left in the early rounds.
Altuve & Perez both look to make a statement this year & I would bet u won't see them pulled until around rd 12-15 or so. Cespedes in rd 9 is great value, he would be a one year player for you (because of his value drops to 7 next year, maybe two years)but ur early picks could all be used on inf & sp. If u have to choose between the 2 go Altuve because catcher position is deep this year.

Both Altuve and Perez are solid keepers, but I would go with Altuve, as I think he has a higher overall value. I could easily see either being a solid choice. I've seen Altuve ranked higher in keeper rankings (but not by too much) and just as reference, there's a decent difference in projected auction values as well. That could easily switch by midseason, so I'd go with which one you prefer between those two.
