Jose Abreu of Cuba .... holy %$@$!

.453 batting average; .597 on-base percentage; .986 slugging percentage. Thirty-three homers and 93 runs batted in … in 212 at-bats.

I believe it was he and Cespedes who were breaking all kinds of hitting records the year Yeonis left. This guy could probably be a good MLB hitter.

That Cuban starter looked pretty nasty too.

I saw the Cuban team play last weekend. Abreu's stats are incredible but I was actually unimpressed. He's got a shot to be an MLB'er but I think MLB pitchers will find whole in his swing. He also has zero defensive value. At best he's average at 1B but he already looked unathletic at 26. Gourriel looked awesome. Nice smooth swing.

The Taiwan bracket is interesting so far with the Dutch knocking off Korea and Taiwan winning its first two games. I wish I had tickets but I decided too late to go.

Granted, I only saw 1 or 2 of Abreu's ABs, but I agree kab...he looked like he'd get eaten up by MLB pitchers.

I agree. He looked very unimpressive. I remember that Gourriel (SP?) guy from 2009. He looks like a better player to me.

he would probably make it as a role player but any team dropping 40-50M on him would probably be disappointed.
