Let's talk ST. Use this thread to overreact to ST stats, players being in the "best shape of their lives" or getting LASIK, etc.
Arguably the most impressive starts have been two prospects:
21 y/o Michael Wacha, STL - 5 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 8 K. 24 y/o Jedd Gyorko, SD - 5/13, 4 H, 3 HR, 9 RBI.
News:
-Carl Crawford feeling forearm tightness in his throwing arm. -Phil Hughes may miss the start of the season with a bulging disk. -Elvis Andrus is not playing today because his new tattoo hurts.
I watched the Phillies vs Braves game today. Since we were already talking about guys like Howard and Utley gonna talk about it!
Howard looks strong but he still isn't running very well. He pulled everything. (Edit: He just hit an opposite field HR which is a good sign).
Utley looked amazing and is running free and easy and using his legs in his swing.
M. Young was hitting the ball hard but everything was right into the ground which I guess is par for the course.
Ruf looked pretty bad and is pretty obviously having problems with his arm which he kept pressing on when they showed him in the background.
Brown looked really good but still a little loss vs offspeed stuff.
Hamels looks like he is in mid season form.
J. Upton looked very comfortable against Hamels, I really don't worry about him this year. He was swinging with authority and looked healthy
BJ. Upton not so much, I expect his AVG to stay pretty low this year and I think the NL East pitching may eat him up considering the AL East was kind of soft last year.
Maholm didn't magically find a way to not look very average~.
Pastornicky looks like someone who has never played 2B before out there.
Mike Adams looks healthier than I expected.

I saw Wacha's start yesterday. He looks like he could be a handful. He's tall and lanky and gets on top of the ball differently than most pitchers. He throws straight down-hill. It was hard to judge the movement with the way most of these camera angles are at, but based on hitter reactions, it was nasty.I see a lot of ground balls and a decent strikeout rate in his future.
Forgot to mention earlier ... Lance Lynn doesn't even look like the same guy. He lost 40+ lbs and it may be effecting him on the mound. He was throwing between 89-91. He was 93-95 last year in games that I saw. I know that it sometimes takes power pitchers some time to get going, and it very early. It's worth keeping an eye on.
