Someone is pestering me for Billy Hamilton in my H2H each category dynasty league (keep top 5, others will be at risk to be redrafted after 3+ active lineup years on your team). I think I can sell high at this point, before he's even tried out AAA. Categories: R, H, RBI, HR, OPS, SB --- QS, SV, HLD, ERA, WHIP, K/9
Let's take for example the worst case scenario: Billy Hamilton steals 100 bases in the bigs and is the SB leader for 5+ years. He could win SB without any help for each match up. However, he would likely contribute 0 to HR, be below average in OPS, below average in RBI, average to below average in hits, and most likely plus in runs scored. The way I see it, if worse came to worse and he stole 100 bases for his first 5 years in the bigs, good for the team I traded him to. He wins steals every week. That means every time I lost the SB category (in 12x12 setting), that's one I lost out on, and every time I won SB I didn't need Hamilton. On top of that, I've seen other prospects get drafted in our draft with around 100 SB which makes me wonder how often do speedy guys get these crazy totals? And, obviously, how we don't see this in the bigs?
How would you value him? I saw in another thread someone compared him to Michael Bourn at best. Seems like a fair ceiling at this point. I want to offer a trade soon, my opponent is telling me he's deep in pitching and that nobody is "untouchable".

My goal is someone young/reliable in my SP staff such as Cain or Latos. He would NOT do Cain for B Hamilton and C Beltran. I'd like to do a 2 for 1 trade that doesn't involve me giving up someone in my pitching staff. He said he likes Olt. Thoughts?
Some people are much higher on Melky than I am......i would definitely try pairing him with Hamilton (and then cross your fingers). I would also give up a 2nd prospect in Seager or Grandal to get Cain.
Morales is another interesting option to throw in. Still has upside (he was looking great before his injury a couple years ago).....and if he can net you Cain, I would add him to a 3-for-1 deal with Hamilton and Beltran or Melky.
I have a feeling that you are probably going to have to settle for targeting Greinke or Latos, though. I doubt he will part an elite SP for a prospect unless you throw in somebody like Ike Davis....or hill.
I mean if he really really wants him then I don't know how to value him. Does that mean you can get a McCutchen or something crazy for Hamilton and another player. If so then you have to go that route.
More likely I would target some of his young guys like Machado or Fernandez or Baez or Bradley. If you could get a couple of those, that would be pretty darn good.
Why are you having to make the first offer though? If he wants him, then he needs to send you the first offer that way you can get a good read on what he is wanting to give up.
"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move."- Douglas Adams
I like Hamilton but if you want to deal him i'd consider all options like getting some power back. If you want pitching i'd try and snag J Fernandez from Miami. Note that I'm new to fantasy baseball so my offers could be way off, but maybe try one of these. If he doesn't like it he can counter or make an offer. See my link below.
Hamilton & Olt for either (Latos or Cain or Verlander)
I doubt he gives up Verlander but you never know. You can make the offer like i did and see if he'd do the deal for any of them. Here you get a proven young power pitcher for a top prospect and a young player. Olt might move to 3B after Beltre retires. By him saying none of his pitchers are untouchable and that he likes Olt it sounds to me like Olt and Hamilton should fetch you one of those three. If it doesn't then ask him to counter.
Hamilton & Olt for J Fernandez & Machado
This one should be in the ballpark as far as being fair. Each team gets a top prospect and a young player. Machado's value would increase if the O's move him to SS. Getting Fernandez would win you this deal imo if he lives up to the hype. If he wants a top prospect and a young up and comer like Olt he should have to give up some young talent as well.
Hamilton, Olt, and Aaron Hill for (J Bruce or Heyward) and J Gyroko
Ok this one could be way off. He has a surplus of OF and Hamilton is being groomed to play OF so the thinking here is that he can afford to deal one. If you want power Bruce or Heyward would do that. I'm not a believer in Hill so i'd try and move him while his value is high but he could prove me wrong.
Hamilton's comp would be Vince Coleman however in Hamilton's short time in the upper minors he has shown better plate discipline than Coleman. There is no doubt that Hamilton will steal 100+ bags a year however the question is will he hit enough to be given the opportunity, which is still up in the air however the progress he made last year is encouraging.
As for the trade if the owner wants him make him pay. Personally I would deal him for Machado straight up however looking at his squad he would not make the move (or at least should not) because Machado is his future 3B.
I would set my sights on any of the following Machado/Fernandez/Taillon and Latos (simply because I do not see him giving up one of the big three) and Jennings.

This is negotiation 101 in any forum/format. Whether you have an offer in mind or not, make your counterpart offer first.

Sorry guys I left this out somehow, probably because his offer to me seemed quite preposterous... He would give me : Matt Holliday and Leonys Martin I would give him: Billy Hamilton and Mike Olt and he said "This goes against my better judgment" ... yeah ok.
Hawk is he playing with the idea that proven talent Holliday (is worth more than a prospect no matter the upside)...he does have a point, but this deal still doesn't really benefit you.
Like I said you could use a 1b to at least give you a fallback option if either or Davis fall off completely. See if you can pry Tex away from him on the cheap.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
