In a series of twelve threads, let's discuss who should be picked where in the first round. Assume standard scoring 12 team H2H re-draft league.
In the first pick poll, Braun was the overwhelming favorite. Now what say you for the second pick?
1. Ryan Braun (31 votes) 2. ?
1) Select a player in the poll 2) Feel free to discuss the pros and cons of these players - this could be helpful for some and generate some good discussion.
I am faced with this in my big money league that drafts on 3/23. I will be the first to admit that my answer might be different tomorrow. For me it comes down to consistency. Miggy has done it a long time and even though Trout is a huge talent, I think I need to see it for another year. He can't repeat that..can he? It's funny because in most years picking a Triple Crown winner at #1 would be a no brainer...much less at #2.
MCab. He doesn't have the fantasy potential that Trout does (really almost nobody does), but he's consistently elite and there aren't many of those left after Braun.
the prospect of 30hr and 50sb is too good to pass up. Even when projecting Trout to a bad year, he could still pass Cabrera's 3/5/10 year averages. Bottom line is Trout's floor to me is safe enough to risk his high reward over MCab's dependability.

I go MCab and I'm about as down on him as anyone on the forum I think~. There is no way he gives you top 5 value but it is also really unlikely he doesn't give you top 12 value. I'll take the floor over the ceiling in this case. I still think it is all too likely that Trout only hits 20 HR and like .290 and leading off I don't see him repeating the big RBI numbers. Since you said H2H that also devalues Trout some since I think SB lose value in H2H. I don't know why we would do this H2H though since it is a lot less popular than Roto at least on these forums.

Agree completely. You can't win a league in the first round, but you can definitely lose one in the first round.
I agree with J. I think a lot of people are downplaying the chance that Trout doesn't come close to some of the lofty predictions that are out there. MCab for me.
I'd hate to have third pick, feeling like you have to take Trout. I'd deal it if possible. Unless it's a keeper.
