Chris Nelson. Rockies 3B. sleeper?

Postby SpecialFNK » Sun Feb 24, 2013 7:59 pm

it looks like Chris Nelson will be the starting 3B for the Rockies this season.
would he be a good sleeper?
2B and 3B eligibility.
he is now the "magical" age of 27.
his 2nd half last year was good..
.344/.381/.500/.881/ 4 HR/ 27 R/ 30 RBI

he has had some good minor league seasons.

2010- 85/319 - .313/.376/.492/.868/ 12 HR
2011 - 73/289 - .329 /.366/.547/.913/ 11 HR

one flaw I see. he does need to raise his FB%. 25.1 in 2012, 31.5 in 2011.

He is pretty brutal defensively too which might chip away at his playtime.

Definitely one to keep an eye, but I can't see him being picked up on draft. Not sure how Walt Weiss plans to use him and there's always the possibility of Nolan Arenado being called up sometime during the season.

Definitely on my watch list as a possible in-season pickup, but not on draft day.

I was kind of hoping that Jordan Pacheco would win the 3B job. he comes with C eligibility and that could be a big bonus if Pacheco could be the starting 3B.
too often when it comes to players I'm looking for the really deep sleepers, that I can grab late for upside in a 16 team league.
