harper for posey and dickey???? whir

Postby ratking20 » Sat Feb 23, 2013 11:06 am

12 team 5x5 auction league with contracts
we can keep 4-8 players

i have harper for $11 this year and 13 next year. then hes gone

i would get....

posey at $11 this year and then hes gone
dickey at $8 this year, $11 next year and $13 the following year then hes gone

i have strasburg, mccutchen, reddick, ellsbury, ackley that i will keep and also harper obviously
i could keep cj wilson, pagan, gardner, marcum, and scherzer too but their price doesnt justify it

any thoughts? im new to these kinds of leagues. how valuable is posey at the catcher position? and dickey would be a nice 1 2 punch with strasburg

i don't like the trade.

I have trouble trusting Dickey. He is 38 years old. And yes, knuckleballers can pitch into their 40's.....but they have also been known to suddenly just lose their stuff as they get older. Dickey should be successful this year, but I don't trust him going forward. So I consider those next two years on the contract as almost meaningless.

In general, I like Harper a little more than Posey. Considering the pounding catchers take, i fully expect Posey to regress a bit from last years numbers (I think he will put up 3rd or 4th round numbers.....not 2nd round numbers). And when you consider that you would have Harper for next year, too......while you would lose Posey at the end of this season.....I like Harper a lot more than Posey for the sake of this trade.

Harper is the best and safest player in the trade. It looks to me like the other guy is trying to trade away 2 guys that scare him a little bit and is trying to get a sure thing in return.

Personally, I would keep Harper.

help with mine?

I wouldn't do it. As good as Posey is, you're losing him after this season. You've got Bryce for another year and I'd hold onto him. Dickey is old and it's too risky to trust a knuckleballer, even one as good as him, for years to come

I kinda like this deal. In terms of overall long-term value, you probably take a slight hit, but if Dickey stays very good (not great like last year) it could end up being better.

Given that the value is so close, I like the deal because it makes you a better team for next year. You already have 3 very strong OF, so why not spread the value to C as well?

my team

ackley 9 this year, 11 next
ellsbury 28 this year, 30 next
harper 11 this year, 13 next
mccutchen 23 this year
reddick 6 this year, 9 next year, 11 year after
pagan 8 this year, 11 next, 13 year after

strasburg 9 this year, 11 year after
scherzer 24 this year
cj wilson 14 this year, 16 year after

i can keep 4-8 players
def keeping harper, mccutchen, reddick, strasburg
maybe keeping ackley and ellsbury
prob not keeping pagan or scherzer
def not keeping cj wilson

for next year i only really have reddick to keep as of now so i dont like losing harper
but i do like having strasburg and dickey for the next 2 years and dickey for another
and posey at catcher gives a nice advantage at a weak position
