10-team, standard 5x5 roto league. Keep 10 players....no restrictions:
I have 9 keepers locked in:
1b - Prince Fielder 2b - Jason Kipnis 3b - Evan Longoria ss - Jimmy Rollins of - Matt Kemp of - Giancarlo Stanton of - Adam jones sp - Clayton Kershaw sp - Johnny Cueto
' This leaves 1 final keeper spot for me to fill. Here are the 3 guys I am considering:
R.A. Dickey - (am I crazy for not fully trusting this 38 year old knuckle-baller?) Eric Hosmer - (best long-term option of the group...but may be riskiest option to win this year) Alex Rios - (safe, low risk/low reward pick...highest floor of group....but also lowest ceiling?)
So, who do you think I should keep?
Your help is appreciated.....of course, WHIR!
p.s.
I don't really have any glaring positional needs...
....and I have a pretty good balance of speed/power and pitching/hitting...
....so i feel like I'm in a good position to just take the "best available" player...
....problem is i keep changing my mind re: who the best player is!
Thanks again.

I would keep Rollins....I might be in the minority but as your last keeper I would worry about age as you will find another one during the year...if he's on he will be solid...I have him on my team....he wasnt kept and I grabbed him in round one
But I should clarify: I had rollins locked in as one of my 9 "no-brainers". I was asking which guy I should keep in addition to Rollins...not instead of rollins.
I have edited the original post to avoid such confusion.

(rollins is the only guy on the list I am not 100% on due to his age and batting average....but i don't think there is any way I can drop a near lock for a 20/20 season at a shallow position).

p.s. I already have most positions covered, so I really don't need to worry about "positional need".....and I already have a nice mix of speed and power, so that's not a huge issue either.....and in a league with 10 keepers I am just as comfortable keeping 2 SP's as I am keeping 3 SP's...

I would personally go with Hosmer.Has the highest ceilling and should bounce back but Dickey is great to cause unlike Hosmer he doesnt have someone breathing down his neck(Billy Butler) but he does play in the AL East now so no pitcher every 9 person and is one of the toughest divisions. Rios is an absolute no to me, to many OF have similar orbetter stats year in and out.
I would go with dickey...you have an awsome start to the offense, as welll as the pitching. But keeping dickey with kershaw and cueto, puts u at a huge advantage 4 of the 5 cats that are there....tons of wins, lots of k's...the era and whip from those 3 should be super. Then this will allow u to fill in some of your needs in the offence...but thats just me...good luck
Keep RA Dickey for sure. Worse case is that you'll trade him. He has at least a few great years in him.
Personally, I would rather have either RA, Hosmer or Rios over Rollins (so I would probably keep Hosmer also), but it's your call. Rollins has no keeper value IMO.
First of all, don't listen to those saying you shouldn't keep Rollins. He is one of the most consistent players in baseball and stays healthy most of the time. He might only hit 250 but will be a 20/25 player as SS. He is a solid keeper.
As far as your question goes I would take a chance on Hosmer. I love his potential and would rather have him by far than Dickey who will never reproduce last year's numbers and Rios shouldn't even be considered. He has a good year every other year and last year was his peak. Keep Hosmer and hope he breaks out this year. Your other keepers are good.
