I just missed the playoffs last year, after playing in the championship three years in a row, winning it all once. I have the first pick in the draft this year because I won the consolation bracket. I can't decide whether I am in full on rebuilding mode or whether I should try to win this year. Teams that have the first draft pick have historically done well in this league which makes me want to go for it, but I'm not sure that is the best thing in the long run.
Eight teams, H2H, 6x6 (standard + OPS and L). Ten Keepers
Potential Keepers are: Joey Votto Chase Headley Mike Olt Curtis Granderson Allen Craig B.J. Upton Alex Rios Brett Lawrie David Ortiz Roy Halladay Cole Hamels Yovani Gallardo R.A. Dickey Dylan Bundy Jon Lester Jurickson Profar
In an 8 team league I can't imagine ever not going for it. Also, I can't imagine it'd worth keeping any of those prospects with only 80 players being kept.

I agree you should never not go for it in an 8 team league. I did an 8 team league my first 3-4 years in fantasy and I made the playoffs every season simply because I checked my team every day and made any changes to my lineup to ensure the max possible counting stats and consider trades, etc. I messed up by saying "M Cabrera" in my thread, I meant Melky not Miguel- viewtopic.php?f=26&t=454814&p=3579239#p3579239
And for the most part I will agree with the poster above on keeper selection. I will reiterate that you want to keep Allen Craig for sure. He's not a household name quite yet but he's pretty underrated by guys in my league for sure. Pitchers will come and go so it's tempting to keep Yovani or young guys like that but you should probably see pitchers on a year to year basis with your setup

I agree with these. I'm a little worried about Headley, but I'm not sure who I'd swap him for. Same with Halladay, but I don't think you can drop him.
Okay, 10 keepers in an 8 team league. Here is who I would pick:

Slightly different than the others, as I don't expect R.A. Dickey to be that good this season. Yes, he was incredible last year but moving from the NL to the AL (particularly the AL East) can be lethal for some guys. In particular, Dickey was pretty much rocked consistently in his prior AL stints. I know it goes against all logic to say "no" on a healthy reigning Cy Young award winner but I truly wouldn't be surprised if Dickey ends up with an ERA north of 4.00 this season.

Thanks and WHIR!
Always try to win unless you feel you have zero chance.
1b Joey Votto 3b Chase Headley CI Brett Lawrie OF Curtis Granderson 1b/UTL?/OF? Allen Craig OF B.J. Upton Roy Halladay Cole Hamels R.A. Dickey D. Bundy You have 9 no brainers. I'd consider if you want to take a chance on a young player make it Bundy because he's in the rotation and he has great upside (plus it will give you a young keeper pitcher for years to come....as your other options are starting to age a bit)
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
