I play in a 5x5, 12 team roto league.....we use On Base % instead of BA though. Everything else is standard. We get to keep 3 players, and based on where they were drafted the previous year, determines their keeper value this year.
My Definite keeper is: Strasburg in Rd 16
Need help picking 2 more of the following: Jim Johnson in Rd 23 (leaning towards him, we start 2 RPS, so a closer this late is good value) Adam Dunn in Rd 11 (since its an OBP league, he has a higher value than a BA league, 30+ HR potential here) Brett lawrie in Rd 12 (also leaning towards him here as my last keeper) Aaron Hill in Rd 14 (everyone seems to be really high on him this yr.....is it just bc 2b is so thin?)
Please pick 2....thanks for your help....leave a link and I will do my best to help you out.
hill and lawrie. toss the RP back in. Lawrie is great value for a top 10 3rd basemen with very high potential. For 12 teams the 12 round pick is the 130th pick range. Lawrie could easily be snagged in the first 6 rounds.
Really? Toss johnson away? he led the majors in saves last yr....and for rd 23 I feel like thats a steal. I dont expect 50 saves out of him, baltimore won't have the year they did last year, i know that.
Lawrie was being drafted in rd 5 and 6 last year......i kept him as my 15th round pick last yr and he was a BUST
Hill I feel is being over valued, basically becuase of him being a 2B
I would go Lawrie and Hill here, but if you don't like Hill go Dunn.
Johnson is a nice option and sure, for a 23rd it's nice value, but the volatility of the position in general says he has the worst chance out of your options of repeating last year's production.
yea I'm torn.....I've thought about not keeping Johnson. But for rd 23, it seems like a no brainer. Closers are so unpredictable, and he went a whole season and did a great job, seems like his job is safe, and for rd 23 im getting great value.
Problem is, hill and lawrie also getting decent value....BUT they are both question marks in my eyes.
I absolutely agree with keeping Strasburg and I see your logic about Jim Johnson's value in such a late round (I still wouldn't keep him though)... but the fact that you're not keeping any high value offensive players makes me think you will have a hard time competing in offensive categories. Depending on your roster, you could preserve more value by keeping certain players, even if it costs you a draft pick in an earlier round.
We cannot keep anyone drafted in the first 3 rounds........wherever a player was drafted, next year if you keep him he will cost you a draft pick 3 rounds earlier.....so if you keep a 4th rd pick, next year he would be your 1st round draft pick if you kept him. So most teams don't have any big offensive studs as their keepers (expect for one team who has trout as their 22nd round pick.....thats just insane!!!!!)
