Keeper Time....whir

Postby misterf » Tue Feb 19, 2013 4:21 am

Time to select my keepers. As always, some tough decisions to fill the final few spots.

Standard 5x5 roto
Keep 10 players per year...not restrictions (restrictions do kick-in in 2 season...but not a concern yet)
(c, 1b, 2b, 3b, ss, 3xOF, 2xUT, 5xSP, 3xRP)

I have 7 no-brainers:

Troy Tulowitzki (ss)
Justin Upton (of)
jose Bautista (of)
Jason Heyward (of)
Josh Hamilton (util)
Cole Hamels (sp)
Madison Bumgarner (sp)

I have 6 options to fill the final 3 spots:

Freddie Freeman (1b)
Brandon Phillips (2b)
Jose Altuve (2b)
Brett Lawrie (3b)
Jordan Zimmerman (sp)
Yovani Gallardo (sp)

So, which 3 of these options do you think i should keep?
Of course, let me know if you disagree with any of my "no-brainers".

Thanks in advance......and will whir (but may take up to 24hrs)

-MisterF

p.s. I am trying to trade one of the 2b's (Phillips or Altuve) for draft picks....which would make the decision a little easier....but so far no takers

Your No Brainers look good.

If you're partial to a 7-3 hitter/pitcher split, then:
Phillips
Lawrie
Zimmermann

If 8-2 is what you'd prefer then
Phillips
Lawrie
Freeman

Freeman is right around the top-10 1Bs, maybe just outside, but I like him and think he has room to grow, especially since his injured finger and vision problems seem to be behind him coming into spring training. I think Lawrie and Phillips will be solid at their position, Phillips more than Lawrie, but Lawrie might be a risk/reward deal that I buy into. Just not into Altuve as much as others (terrible team in a tougher league, etc.) and I like Zimmermann a little more than Gallardo.

I didn't see your league size, so I'm not sure what kind of replacement players might be available at the various positions. I would definitely take that into account as well.

Good luck.

Not a lot of specificity from me here, but just some gut. I'd take Lawrie, cuz i know ur pissed he let u down last year and can't give up on him...then i'd take ur pick from altuve/phillips, and Zimmerman. Lock down those ratios w/ him and BumG.

Phillips
Lawrie
Freeman

If you want to keep a 3rd pitcher I would take Zimmerman over Freeman, but I think I wouldlock down my offense with the three bats.

Love the 7 no brainers you have there, 2 of them being #1 starters on alot of teams, so essentially you have 2 #1 starters. That bieing said I would go with all bats with the last 3 as I am sure that there will be more pitchers available come draft day...so I say
freeman
lawrie
phillips or altuve....if you think you have enough power protected already, I would try to lock up 30 steals and a .300 avg 2nd bagger in altuve...Or try to package phillips and madbum for a strasburg maybe...Good luck too you.... ;-D

Freeman, Phillips, and Lawrie. Although Phillips is not as young as the other two, he plays a shallow position and showed last season that he's still of great value.

Freeman and Lawrie for sure. I think I'd take Philips anyway becasue he will provide pop AND speed.

Thanks for the keeper help earlier.
I wouldn't give up on lawrie yet. Last year was a huge let down but he has the skills to be a stud at 3B for years to come. I do like phillips and have to agree with the other response in trying to trade him. I love Altuve. He has potential to swipe twice as many bags as phillips and can hit for .300. He hit 7 homers last year and he is only 22 (if this is a keeper league you expect to last a few years, phillips is 31.) He still has the room to grow in the power department and if he hits just a few more he is past phillips territory.
And as a Nats fan, Zimmerman is my 3rd choice

Thanks for the keeper help on my post.

I like the 7 no brainers.

I'd take Freeman and Phillips.

Then for the last either Zimmerman or Lawrie, depending if you want to keep another pitcher.

If it was me I'd keep the pitcher.
