Trying to decide keepers WHIR ALWAYS

Postby ATLbraves » Sat Feb 16, 2013 2:38 pm

I am trying to decide which 7 keepers I am going to go with. I pretty much have 6 decided, but having difficulty making my decision on my last keeper:

(* round that each player can be kept in)

Mark Trumbo - 11th round*
Chris Sale - 12th round*
Johnny Cueto - 14th round*
Bryce Harper - 17th round*
Jason Kipnis - 18th round*
Matt Harvey - 21st round*

Trying to decide if I should keep David Ortiz in the 9th round or should I keep Brandon Beachy in the 17th round? I also could keep Torii Hunter in the 16th round.

David Ortiz has 1B eligibility in my league, so that adds value to him. Beachy won't be back till late June b/c of Tommy John surgery.

This is a 12 team league with 7 keepers each so that dilutes the draft some and adds value to everyone.

What do y'all think?

I don't love either of your remaining choices but I would rather have Ortiz with the 1B elig over Beachy who has little value to me.

Well I dont have to keep a 7th guy, I could just go with 6 or attempt to find a trade with someone. Do you think that would be a better option?

It could be depending on who you think will be available. I don't think either of those guys is great value in their respective rounds. If you only keep 6 and everyone else keeps 7 do you get the first pick in the draft?

I would go in with your six keepers. Assuming everyone else keeps 7, sounds like you'll get the first pick of what's out there. I think you can get both Ortiz and certainly Beechy lower in the draft than you can keep them for.

No unfortunately not, the way our draft works you get to keep them 2 rounds ahead of where they were drafted last year. So no one is keeping anyone drafted in the 3rd round last year so everyone will have a first round pick. I will likely have a pick in the range of 7-10 b/c I finished 4th last year. Whoever finished last will have the first round pick.

Also I could keep Beachy in the 17th and just put him on my DL and instantly pick someone off the FA after the draft is over.

I agree with the others that I don't love either one. I think I would take Beachy between the two but this is because he could be a real value next year. So this is more of a pick to help you long-term than a pick that will help you this year. If Beachy gains 2 rounds each year he is kept, then he could be a great keeper for the next 4-5 years.

I agree. It's a move for the future, but could bring some value late in the year. If you don't keep him, I'd roll with 6.

I would only go 6 as well.
