Carlos Gomez over Chris Davis?

Postby Socali » Fri Feb 15, 2013 3:02 pm

I need to pick one of these fellas as a keeper for this year

Why is it that every publication has Carlos Gomez rated higher (sometimes much higher) than Chris Davis when, stat projection wise, Gomez is only predicted to beat Davis in just ONE cat (stolen bases)?

Am I missing something? BOTH are in prime age (26 and 27) And Davis being also 1st base eligible (Yahoo) makes him more versatile.

THOUGHTS? %-6

Depends on how much you value SB honestly.

My best guess is:
R should be close.
Davis will have have 10-15 more HR.
Davis will have around 20 more RBI
Gomez will have around 30 more SB
Davis will be 10-20 points higher BA.

I think Davis' number look good, but when compared to his position (1B) not quite as sterling. I think I read that even with his breakout in 2012 he was still the #22 1B in points leagues. Maybe Gomez has that "light finally came on" shine while people still still remember just how rough it could be with Davis.

I would take Davis in the later rounds if I lost out on the top 1Bs and wanted to get value at that position relative to the non-elite players.

As for Gomez, I kind of think he's overvalued as well.

Yeah, I'm not really in love with EITHER C.Davis (OF/1st) or Gomez(OF). Davis can be a 2 category guy, while I see Gomez as really a SB guy with a little pop (maybe 15 HR) but also might hurt my BA more than Davis will. .... in my league we keep 5 players...and 2 of the 5 keepers must be players that were drafted after round 15 the prior year. I need one more "low" keeper and one of these two "mediocre" guys are probably my best option.

It just seems to me theres no evidence to why Gomez is ranked higher than C.Davis. It doesnt add up. But I'm very open to being persuaded either way.
