Here are the original top 10 from the 2012 draft, now 8 months later how would you draft for fantasy keeper ball? You do not have to stick to these 10, list anyone from the 2012 draft.
1. Carlos Correa, SS 2. Byron Buxton, OF 3. Mike Zunino, C 4. Kevin Gausman, RHP 5. Kyle Zimmer, RHP 6. Albert Almora, OF 7. Max Fried, LHP 8. Mark Appel, RHP 9. Andrew Heaney, LHP 10. David Dahl, OF
League size absolutely matter for this kind of discussion? Is it a 12 teams league where you'd basically go for upside and don't care for floor. Or is it a 30 teams league where an average MLB SS is a useful commodity and you'll have to factor in both floor and ceiling. Rankings would be drastically different. For example Andrew Heaney is probably not in the top 30 if I'm in a 12 teams league yet would be significantly higher in a 30 teams league.
Are you interested in joining a 28 teams dynasty league? If so, PM me.
1. C. Correa (Hou - SS) - I thought all a long he was the best talent in the draft 2. M. Zunino (Sea - C) - Should be a very safe and productive offensive catcher for years to come 3. A. Russell (Hou - SS) - Defense has gotten better at shortstop and produced right away 4. D. Dahl (Col - OF) - More advanced than some thought and Dominated RK ball 5. B. Buxton (Min - OF) - Tools galore but somewhat risky with swing and miss approach 6. M. Fried (SD - LHP) - Might have to a wait on HS youngster but far and away best lefty in draft 7. K. Zimmer (KC -RHP) - WIll move quickly and has electric stuff despite not pitching full time till now 8. C. Hawkins (ChW - OF) - Risker than Almora but more power potential 9. A. Almora (ChC - OF) - Very safe and polished, reminds me of JD Drew some 10. K. Gausman (Bal -RHP) - Nice arsenal and should move quickly, but results low so far
Not: L. Giolito (Was - RHP) - Best arm in the draft but who knows how TJ recovery will go.
I picked 13th in my 24 tm first year player draft and I put 14 players on my board before the draft. tbh I didn't spend too much time ranking the guys that I knew were going to be gone but spent a few minutes putting a list together. I ended up with my #13 in Puig after debating about his upside vs Seager. 2B/SS/3B are difficult to get in this league due to depth. I also included the two Cubans in this list since they are probably available in most drafts like this.
Correa - no problems with him #1. Buxton - a little concerned that his current hit tool is his weakest but the potential is there for power, speed and average Fried - he's a guy that has shot up my list due to some really good scouting reports - esp his curve. Soler - a wild card. Power and speed guy. Gausman - both Gausman and Zunino are stuck in the should be good but not great category - could move up or down based on your preferences for upside/floor Zunino Dahl - I am not going to launch Dahl and Russell into the top of this list based on rk ball stats. Not yet anyway Russell Giolito - TJ sucks but he has the upside that I look for in this kind of draft. Almora Zimmer - a little concerned about his elbow Wacha - a college pitcher that destroyed the lower levels last year (40K/4BB/21IP). Can't go higher than this though due being a college pitcher in the lower levels. Puig - another wild card - easy, powerful swing but I see a lot of swing and miss Seager Hawkins and Berrios were just off of my board.
here is the actual first rd of the draft
1. Kevin Gausman, SP BAL - SP'ers in a 24 tm league are worth a lot if they are simply breathing 2. David Dahl, OF COL 3. Mike Zunino, C SEA 4.Byron Buxton, OF MIN 5. Kyle Zimmer, SP KC 6. Carlos Correa, SS HOU 7. Lucas Giolito, SP WAS 8. Jorge Soler, OF LAD 9. Max Fried, SP SD 10. Albert Almora, OF CHC 11. Addison Russell, SS OAK 12. Michael Wacha, SP STL 13. Yaisel Puig, OF LAD 14. Corey Seager, SS LAD 15. Ryu Hyun Jin, SP LAD 16. Courtney Hawkins, OF CHW 17. Richie Shaffer, 3b TB 18. J.O. Berrios, P MIN 19. Andrew Heaney, LHP MIA 20. Gavin Cecchini, NYM 21. Kab21, thank for the reply. Posting your leagues entry draft results was great. Wish I would have seen it a day sooner, I might have got Wacha, he was on the top of my short list but I took Puig the round before, I might have been swayed to flip flop .. if anyone else has entry draft dynasty results feel free to post them for everyone to compare ..
one other question too ..
I could swap any of these guys ... Jake Marisnick Oswaldo Arcia Aaron Hicks Trevor Story Roman Quinn Cory Seager Brian Goodwin Avisail Garcia
for any of these existing guys .. please post if you would keep or swap the guys below, thx. .. CJ Cron Bryce Brentz Matt Adams
I would drop 2 of them and add Seager and Story. I think they are better prospects and in my league good 2B/SS/3B are hard to find (24 tms). Usually you can find someone to play in the OF/1B.
Brentz strikes me as a Willingham type if the strikeouts don't explode in the majors. .260, 30 HR, 2 SB
Cron swings at everything so I'm not too high on him either.
Adams has mashed everywhere and doesn't K much. I would probably keep him even if he is a giant. He will has a good chance to play this year instead of waiting for the other two.
