In all the mocks I've done, he has not gone before Hamels a single time.

I doubt ALL experts rank him so high. But there will always be a few that do. I think it's very possible to believe the best pitcher Japan has seen in awhile could come here and do very well. Maybe he needed time to adjust. The stuff is there as evidenced by his super high K/9. The people who believe it is a question of mentality and not skill see a guy with his stuff hitting a relatively high ceiling immediately, and they totally buy into the strong September finish.

Me personally? I think he's still too wild to be taken that high and will end up being a Tim Lincecum type. ;-D

Well by that logic, no player ever gets better. :) I'm not saying magically ignore. I'm saying put it in perspective. He was a rookie, haha.

Yeah I'm talking mostly Tout and LABR type drafts.

http://www.rtsports.com/LABR-Mixed-Draft

There is an example. He was the 8th pitcher picked and that was with someone reaching on Greinke. That seems to be where I see him going in all of these drafts, 7th to 9th pitcher being taken.

Hamels is good for a 3 ERA really good WHIP and 200 K each year. I just can't see taking a 2nd year player who had a 3.8 ERA and control problems over a fully established ace like that. There are maybe 8 or so true aces in fantasy and Darvish does not belong being drafted over him. He is in that next tier of upside soft aces.

At this point im fine with taking Darvish as the 11th-12th or so SP off the board just before Bumgarner and Gio.
I have Hamels ranked 5th in a toss up with Lee fwiw

Yeah that is about where I like him too. Right near other guys who have one flaw away from being an ace, whether it be health, unproven, too many walks, bad team so not as many wins etc.

Darvish has me :-) from head to toe. Drafted him in all my redraft leagues to be my ace with plenty of criticism along the way. I should be thankful for those pushing him down the rankings, but I still don't understand why so many wrote off his late season improvement last year. 1st year MLB players are bound to have issues, having to make all sorts of adjustments; however, the talented ones figure it out at some point and that 8 game stretch was the sign.

Very happy I got him in my keeper for an 18th round pick before the season.

Because late season improvement against bad teams don't generally stick. His last 6 starts last year were against 4 bad offenses and then the Angels twice. The 9 starts before that were very mediocre. I don't think having him around the 15th to 20th best SP in baseball is 'pushing him down'.
