My tentative keepers are: H-Ram, A-Gon, E5, Pedroia, Joey Baut. Non keepers include C Santana (and R Zimmerman).
I got this trade offered: "David Price, Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson for Adrian Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez and Carlos Santana". Assuming I can trade pre-draft and I can keep 5, I would not keep Teix so in effect the trade would be Price/Grandy for H-Ram/A-Gon. E5 would shift to 1B and I would instantly gain an elite pitcher. My keepers would be: E5, Pedroia, Joey Baut, Price, Grandy.
So would you take this deal? Or, which keepers do you prefer? "E5 (1B), Pedroia (2B), Joey Baut (RF), Price (SP), Grandy (CF)" or "H-Ram (SS), A-Gon (1B), E5 (UTIL), Pedroia (2B), Joey Baut (RF)"?
Maybe you can counter with Ramirez/Santana for Price or Granderson (I'd take Price if I had a choice). He gets two of the three guys he wanted and you only part with one of the guys you were planning to designate a keeper. If you're high on Han-Ram over A-Gon, you can do A-Gon/Santana instead.
It really depends on who it is your (potential) trade partner really wants from that deal. I do think you can get Price for one of those two combinations (since he didn't want an SP in return), and he'd be a great #1 in a 14-team league.
I countered with A-Gon+Santana for Price+Granderson. If he doesn't take that, I might consider a A-Gon+Santana for Price+Teix (not that I'll keep Teix anyway ) or even a a Price for A-Gon swap.
If you can get him to accept one of your two alternate proposals, that would be ideal. However, if you can't, I might still pull the trigger on his first offer, BUT it all depends on who you anticipate will be kept by the other teams. Having Price in a 14-team league is pretty big. However, having Hanley's SS/3B versatility is also pretty big because both of those positions can get ugly if you don't grab someone early...or if you have an injury mid-season. I think Hanley will perform better in 2013 than he did in 2011 or 2012, so I'd prefer to keep him over AGon (if given the choice).
If you think you can snag an acceptable SS or 3B early in the draft, I would be ok with his offer because you likely won't be able to grab someone close to Price in the draft. However, if your league values offense way more than pitching, maybe there will still be some good SPs to draft that can anchor your staff. In that case, I would stick with what you have and make sure you grab a SP or two early on.
