They don't have anyone on the roster right now to handle it. For what its worth, he got f-ed by the defense in the 8th inning and in the 9th. Also, for some reason he threw 5 straight fastballs to Arencibia instead of throwing in his change up, which is worked well.

Options for Tampa: McGee (pitched like crap), Peralta (pitched like crap and they had to pull him in 8th for Rodney), Farnsworth (pitched like crap for most of year

Nothing better. I see Rodney as closer for rest of the year, but he will have problems. I believe he was overworked in the WBC and he shows no emotion on the mound like last season. Maybe its because he got paid this year. Regardless, they have no one else and he will keep going out there outside of an injury

Joel Peralta has been pretty decent the last couple of years. If they're desperate they might as well give him a shot

Tazawa or Uehara is a tough one. Similier pitchers actually. Both are better against lefties. Tazawa maybe slightly more well rounded in terms of lefties and righties. Tazawa obv is much younger and should be able to handle the workload better. tough call though, they might see Tazawa better as a setup man, bc not enough experience for a closer. any other opinions?

@Jim_Duquette: John Farrell just told us he'd like to use Tazawa as closer and keep Koji in the 8th

Thanks. All the speculation was starting to drive me nuts.

Koji is so good in the 8th for us - Taz has more power in FB, controls his emotional spike very well. He doesn't get too excitable - JF

Just some more on farrell and tazawa

Yahoo is reporting the same.

If true, this is a good example of a team preferring to keep the 8th inning stable and going with their 7th inning guy as the closer. I tend to agree with that in general, though lots of exceptions might override that preference. Regardless, something to think about as we try and read the tea leaves of unstable bullpens.

Will Fujikawa get the closer role when he comes back? I couldn't imagine why they would pull Gregg from the role.

See my post a couple pages back (the Sun-Times predicting he'll return as the closer). But, I know I've seen speculation in the past that Fujikawa would be used as a setup guy. It sounds like everyone's reading tea leaves -- I haven't seen anything definite yet.
