Mujica
Asked Thursday morning about the Cardinals' ninth-inning gig, general manager John Mozeliak noted that Edward Mujica is the "most senior guy" and "fearless."
Mitchell Boggs has been terrible at closer and Trevor Rosenthal hasn't been much better in a setup role, so the Cardinals could look to Mujica for their next save opportunity. Mujica, 28, boasts a 1.15 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 26/4 K/BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings since moving from the Marlins to the Cardinals late last summer. He needs to be scooped up in all standard fantasy leagues.

Try not to ask questions like: "Is so and so droppable?" It will take us at least 1-2 follow up questions before we can even answer this question. Instead ask what a reliever's value is in comparison to other relievers. That would bring up much more relevant discussion as to who is stashable or not, regardless of league size.

No I would not drop Henderson for K-Rod. There is no guarantee that K-Rod even makes the team, let alone closes. Henderson is still the closer and should be owned in all leagues. I would be speculating on Axford in the Milwaulkee pen if he was available. They want him to come back and be the closer and I think he will get things figured out. I was worried about him a couple weeks ago when his velocity was spotty but he's been back up around 94-95 the last 3 appearances. I think he'll be back and he should be relatively easy to trade for right now because his numbers are atrocious.

Yes it looks like Deja Vu here. Axford looked fantastic today in his one inning of work. Hitting 94mph on the gun with his fast ball and making Sandoval and Pence look bad striking them out swinging on his breaking stuff in the dirt. Likely scenario here is that Axford regains the closers role before too long. Even if K-Rod did get back on the roster, he won't be the closer.

For two days now most have been predicting the closer in St Louis is now Edward Mujica. Although he hasn't yet had the opportunity, the way the Cards have used their bullpen the past few days suggests that is indeed the case. He is a must grab if you play in a league that still has him in the FA pool.

Barring a big inning, it should be the first go round with Mujica coming up in the bottom of the 9th. Rosenthal worked the 8th in a 1 run game.

Edit: Actually he got the 3rd out of the 8th as well. Allowed 2 soft singles in the 9th before taking care of business for his first save.

Andrew Bailey has looked absolutely untouchable his past two outings. A few more of these and Boston would be crazy to remove him from the closer role upon Hanrahans return.

That's sugar-coating it a bit. He was also one "soft single" away from taking the loss.

looks like marmol back at closer. russell came in today to start the 8th with a 6-2 lead and marmol came in the 9th.
also manager said this yesterday

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

"That was part of the deal," Cubs manager Dale Sveum told the Chicago Tribune Tuesday, referring to the possibility of Carlos Marmol regaining the closer role with his improved performance in middle relief.

Well, that makes it pretty clear then, doesn't it?

With Kyuji Fujikawa disabled and unable to secure the role, I think Marmol's return to it is inevitable. After a rocky start last year, he posted a 2.06 ERA over his final 41 appearances, so his four straight scoreless appearances give me some hope he's headed down that path again

I've had some poor luck with Closers so far this year... I grabbed Boggs, Russell, and Herrera expecting good things, but I miss on Mujica and Bailey (should've seen the writing on the wall with Bailey, that's less bad-luck and more of bad decision making)... any other "writing on the wall" situations that I'm not sensing that come to mind???
