I don't even understand why he was in that game. It's not like he hadn't pitched in days.

And a second meatball in the same inning. Uggh

1 run deficit, didn't pitch the day before, they have an off day the next day. Seems pretty standard.

Who is Axford's most likely replacement if it comes down to that?

Short term Jim Henderson. They really like Figaro and he has pitched well so far so he is sort of a dark horse.

The dark horse is Kintzler. He actually has experience closing and has also pitched well so far. Figaro's numbers with Detroit have me doubting he can sustain success closing or in relief

Most alarming Wednesday was that Axford’s first four fastballs registered 91-92 mph on the radar gun, when he typically touches 97 mph. He did get up to 94 mph before manager Ron Roenicke called for Tom Gorzelanny after Axford surrendered the fifth hit of the inning.

“It was way down,” Roenicke said of his closer’s velocity, “so we’ll talk to him and see how he’s doing.”

Axford reported feeling “fine.”

The problem is that Axford is only throwing fastballs. He has zero confidence in his curveball. Not a good sign.

I had high hopes for him this season after finishing 2012 very well but until he can throw his curveball for strikes he should not be closing games for the Brew Crew.

What's the thinking with Veras in Houston? He's the defacto closer at the moment, and got some work in his last game but gave up a couple of runs. Does he hold the job for long? Is he worth holding onto? Who would be the guy to go to if a change is made? Fields?

Also kind of curious about Mikwaukee's situation. Is Henderson worth picking up yet, or is it too early for that?
