I added Tazawa. Gotta believe he gets the next shot at least. Not sure I'd drop Bailey just yet. I still think he has the potential to be a dominant closer down the stretch, but it depends on your roster/league size.

for what it's worth, Tazawa hasn't been lights out himself lately.
he's not giving up many runs, but he has 33 hits in 32.1 IP on the season. I think Uehara has been better, but didn't the Sox say they didn't want Uehara going on back to back games? I can't remember.

Just curious, why doesn't Havok have Mike Adams anywhere in Philly's pecking order for save? Is Bastardo really the next in line if Pap gets traded?

As far as the Boston situation goes I'm not sure I'd even touch that right now as Tsawa & Uhera are both up and down and you don't know if Bailey will come back to take over the role again.

What do you mean by up and down? Both are two of the best RPs in baseball.

Bailey is done. No matter what they say, this isn't a temporary situation. If either Uehara or Tazawa nail a couple of save opps in the next few days, it's their job to lose.

Yes, that was the reason they gave for going with Tazawa last time around. I don't think he ended up getting any save opps though.

More likely to get their job back - Bailey or Wilhemsen?

This is only a guess on my part, but I'd say Wilhemsen. And that's only because of the lack of other quality options. Tazara and Uhera are both capable.

I have Jose Valverde news.
:-o

he gone.
Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 3m

Jose valverde was designated for assignment. #tigers

EDIT: rotoworld.
Tigers designated RHP Jose Valverde for assignment.

Valverde pitched well initially after being called up by the Tigers in late April, but it came crashing down of late, as he blew two of five save chances while posting a 13.50 ERA over his last eight appearances. He should be able to catch on elsewhere, but his days as a closer anywhere are surely over. Joaquin Benoit has taken over as the Tigers' closer.

at least rotoworld mentions that he pitched well initially.

I want to ask a question, but at this point I can't help but feel like everyone right now will agree on only one outcome.
does he catch on with another team, and what are the chances he can again be a closer somewhere? while I have to imagine he will not be closing for a contender, but I still think he could be a closer, even on a bad team.

Why would a bad team want him closing? He's not going to be part of the future, and it's too close to the deadline for him to establish himself as a useful trade chip.

personally I don't think Valverde has been so bad for long enough to be just sent packing, but that's just my opinion and I don't think it's going to change. but it's not worth arguing over.

I would assume that Benoit is going to be taking over right now in Detroit. but then I also can't help think about how in spring training Leyland didn't want Benoit going back to back days. but I think for right now there probably isn't anyone else worth considering. that is until maybe they can make a trade. but who would be a trade target? Papelbon? Jesse Crain as previously mentioned?
