I don't think you're following me or I'm completely blowing the wording on this topic. I'll try again. Some leagues start one catcher. Other leagues start two catchers. A leagues roster that starts one catcher would look something like this:

C:
1B:
2B:
3B:
SS:
OF:

UTL:

Tjhe difference being that one league starts one catcher and the other league starts two catchers. I'm just wondering what the pros and cons are of the one catcher system versus the two catcher system. What is the thinking behind the two starting catcher system in the first place? :-° :-D

Ahh this makes much more sense! I don't know if you play fantasy football but it's the same idea as a 2 Quarterback system. Since Catchers are kind of their own category because their stats are usually much worse than other positions. (even SS usually can get a good amount of SBs). I like having 2 catchers in leagues less than 16 people because there will always be 30 starting catchers in the MLB. Catchers usually drop of at a certain point too. It makes it more interesting and more valuable of a position when you have to use 2 catchers instead of one. You can't just have every own a decent Catcher, this way someone will really have to consider drafting a Catcher earlier in the draft.

FWIW, just so it's abundantly clear to the new folks in this league (The N00b N00bs), you must start all of your position players. Our league has no bench, even though Yahoo will let you bench players.

One thing I'm not clear on- if one of my guys hits the DL, am I obligated to acquire a replacement?

Actually, one more thing I can't remember- does the "no bench" rule apply to pitchers? Am I obligated to send a marginal pitcher out for every bad matchup?

Absolutely right - no benching anyone. No leaving a roster spot empty.

No, there's no obligation to move a guy to the DL and pick up a replacement. In addition, there are only 5 DL slots, so should you have more than 5 players on the DL at any one time, you may be forced to keep one on your roster.

Yes, there is no bench even for pitchers. All pitchers on your roster are in play for good matchups as well as bad.

I have 1 roster question. I have Granderson going on the DL to start the season. Can I draft only 8 SP and 6 Outfielders. I will move Granderson to the DL and pick up a 9th pitcher before the season starts to complete my roster. Or do i have to draft a team to perfectly fit our roster criteria?

This is a great question. I would think that at this point, since Granderson is not on the DL (and won't be until the end of Spring Training, unless the Yankees decide to put him on the 60-day DL to open up a 40-man roster spot), you would not be able to draft 6 OF and 8 SP, as that would give you an illegal roster at the end of the draft. Your fellow Noobs might have other thoughts.

The dude's arm is broken. I have no problem letting him use a dl and draft with an empty spot at the end. He should have to wait until we can officially claim a waiver and not just be allowed the first pick of an extra inning round though. Someone else may go down and want to do the same and then argue who gets first pick when the draft ends.

Just my 2c ;-D

Not played in one of these before but from the spirit of the rules discussions I think we are probably obligated to draft a complete roster, no? Seems like all of us will need to fill in for any injuries with our FAAB and waiver priorities to begin the season. It's almost certain that several of us will have guys we drafted hurt before this draft reaches it's conclusion at its current pace, anyway :-o
