Bryce Harper was drafted in the Masters last year so I see no reason not to continue that way. It appears that there was some discussion on this in the original thread posted in the Cafeholics Forum, well not really a discussion more like 2 or 3 guys brought it up in 3 or 4 posts buried in the midst of recruitment for the leagues themselves. Since it wasn't against the rules before and it wasn't posted here in the Scummers forum we'll continue on as before - no new rules.
It was brought up here, and I was under the impression that we were going with that.

Jeez all of these supposed discussions total about 6 posts in three different threads between a total of 4 posters, how the hell can we change a rule that didn't have an official poll and could have been easily missed by the other 40 some players the 3 leagues.
I told n00bs to go ahead a draft 'em and I don't see any reason not to draft 'em here.
I have no real opinion on the rule but keeping it the way it was last year seems appropriate to me personally. I also don't think any player not in the yahoo database is really worth owning in this league, with no bench you are eating too much of the season to draft any of these guys to be honest since the number of players who have never played a game in the majors and have serious value is almost nil.
To be honest the only effect I can see this having is whether or not you can draft the Japanese imports.

Yeah, that rule is kind of dumb. If they are in the database, they should be good to go and I highly doubt that if we are indeed changing the rule that it would affect anybody's draft so far. There's only a couple players that I can think of that could be drafted that don't have experience... if they just go to highest bidder on the waiver wire when they could have been drafted, I have a problem with that.

And the Bryce Harpers of the world which is probably why this rule was created. There isn't a Bryce Harper this year, but even so, everybody has the opportunity to draft a player, if they pass him up that's their choice. If they're in the database, fair game.

Just to clarify how the drafter of Harper felt about his pick he dropped Harper on March 30th.
This is what I've just posted in the Masters thread:
Late to this discussion as always, when they take place in the middle of the night UK time!
Just to clarify - Pond Scum clarified this rule before the draft started, and we have the same situation in place as in Masters.
As for the situation with waivers, that was not discussed in Pond Scum before we started, so I am hesitant to change the settings now. Personally, I don't see a problem with guys like XXX & XXX being available to be bid on as soon as the draft is over - everyone has an equal opportunity to get them, and if they want to bid on a prospect who isn't up yet, and take the risk that they will have a roster spot with no production for a few weeks, fair play to them.
The fact is that, whilst it may not have been a 'discussion' as such, it was brought up both pre-season in the sign-up thread, and again in the discussion thread here. No one raised any concerns about it at the time, and whether or not everyone saw it, we can't be changing it now, so far through the draft. Most people saw it and have been drafting accordingly.
