Could use some auction help

Postby timgair » Sat Feb 09, 2013 7:40 pm

Hey everyone,

I was hoping maybe some auction vets might be able to point me in the right direction for rotisserie auctions. This is my 3rd year and I've not fared well at all the last two. I've played in 4 leagues and haven't been able to finish higher than 8th in any of them. I think I may have an idea what I'm doing wrong but I really want to do well this year so don't want to fix something if I'm already doing it right.

The approach I take toward the auctions is usually sitting back and letting everyone over spend early. It seems like every one that I've done, the top guys like Cabrera, Cano, Braun etc all get over paid when the bidding is done. I'm so hesitant to over spend early because I try to have balance across my entire lineup.

I guess what I'm asking is, are there any particular approaches you all take when participating in an auction. Do you typically sit back like I do, or are you not afraid to get in there and spend early? Do you tend to set your limits a little higher than what your projections indicate should be right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm curious myself, my one roto league is switching to full auction this year and I haven't had experience (I'm sure most of the others owners are the same, but I'd like to get ahead of the curve this year). I've seen a few strategies, mostly involving hitting and spending 2/3's on offense, but like you said... better to wait, better to nominate guys you don't want, etc
