Which Catcher should I take? WHIR

Postby baseballfanTigers » Mon Feb 04, 2013 9:54 am

I don't have a starting catcher yet and its getting pretty thin at an already thin positions. Here are the best options available:

Wilson Ramos:

Coming off of an injury and starting the year behind Suzuki but shows some talent.

Devin Merasco:

Starting behind Hanigan and Baker doesn't like to play the younger guys. Lots of promise but not sure about playing time.

Jerrod Saltalamacchia:

Going to give me power but not much else. Going to split time with Napoli if the Sox decide to play Napoli at C some games.

Tyler Flowers:

This is the guy I'm leaning towards taking. Full time starter with the Sox. I think he will put up decent numbers.

Other options:

Russell Martin (I'm not a fan)
AJ Ellis
Derek Norris

I just need someone to hold down the fort until Mike Zunino comes up and dominates for me. ;-)

Leave a link and I WHIR. Thanks for the feedback in advance!

If your confident about Zunino then go with the safest guys to get AB's and hit with power. Salty. I really doubt Napoli is going to play much catcher.

I would go with Flowers. Has the starting job and has plenty of pop.

I'd go with Flowers too. The White Sox let AJ Pierzinski go to make room for Flowers- it's his job. Red Sox have a high rated catcher prospect in the minors - they could move Salty.

I would take Ellis and his .270.
I hate guys who hit .230 like Salty/Flowers.

In this kind of situation, I just stream catchers. Play the hot hand and switch out every week or so. Sometimes you land on a guy that stays hot longer than you think (Lucroy did that for me last year). I would probably start with Flowers but I wouldn't hesitate to drop him for someone else if he starts off cold.

I guess Flowers, there is upside there, he can hit for a slightly better average than last year. AJP's line from last year is what he can put up this year I'd go with that.

It's either Ellis or Flowers. Both have upside(Flowers more) and both have the starting job. If you want more power go with Flowers. If you want some power(he hit 13 last season) and a solid avg go with Ellis.

please help
