Which Should Come First

I'm in a keeper league where we do a lottery at the end of the season to determine the order in which players choose their draft position. We give up the round a player was drafted for keepers, and the quality of player chosen in the first couple of rounds can greatly vary based on draft position (due mainly to contract term limits). For example, if I'm keeping a first rounder but not a second rounder, I want the last pick in the first round in order to get the first pick in the second.

My question is: What should come first, keepers being set or draft positions being chosen.

We do the exact same thing in one of my leagues and we've always set the draft order first. I like it better because depending on where your drafting, it can definitely change who you might want to keep, especially in a league with more teams. The only advantage I see to setting the keepers first is that it might make the process of selecting draft positions more interesting.

I agree. I think it's generally a good rule to set up anything that may be random/chance first before allowing decisions to be made. That way, you don't run the risk of someone complaining of possible impropriety if doing the reverse allows someone an advantage.

I agree with setting the draft order first in this case. Why even take a chance of getting off on the wring foot. Besides, if people end up getting upset at anything in this format, it would be another owner and not the format/commish! Trust me, that definitely counts for something too, lol...
