I am in a 12-team H2H keeper and ended up losing my 3rd round pick in a trade last season. So far, I was planning to keep: Kemp (1st round), Mad Bum (7th round), Rizzo (23rd round), and Bruce (6th round). However, I would much prefer to keep a player that was drafted much later in order to preserve low picks.
The owner who has Jose Altuve (23rd round) says that he's willing to trade me him for Jay Bruce (6th round).
Forfeiting a 6th round for Bruce is great, but it's still giving up a pretty low pick. Do you think I would be crazy to contemplate this offer?
You're not crazy to contemplate this offer at all. A 23rd round pick for Altuve is a tremendous value. Going by early ADP, Bruce is being picked around the middle of the fourth round on average. So no one would fault you for opting to take Bruce in this scenario. But Altuve is being picked in the 6th round on average. Bruce is by far the better player, but Altuve is the better value with the rounds you are giving up.
I think I would keep Bruce. Altuve is nice but I will always lean towards the better talent. Bruce is still a good value and will be harder to replace than Altuve would be.

I am not terribly high on Bruce, but I think 6th round in a 12 team league is actually pretty good value for Bruce. Also although I know Bruce has his streaks, I tend to favor Power hitters when i play in h2h leagues. It would be a very small factor in this decision, but I think it just helps the scales tip further to keeping Bruce.
I'd keep Bruce in the 6th. Altuve in the 23rd is tempting value, but the Altuve owner knows that Bruce in the 6th is, too, with better chance for immediate returns, which is why he offering you such a great "deal."
Hold on to Jay. He continues to put it together...
