How to have a successful draft?

Postby Zach F. » Fri Jan 25, 2013 2:09 am

I've heard one way to have a successful draft is to go in aiming to get a certain number of stats for each category. I was just wondering how many Runs, HR's, RBI's, SB's, Win's, K's, Saves to try and get... and then what to aim for in BA, ERA, and WHIP.

I'm talking about a standard H2H league, with 5x5 scoring, and just the normal 10 starting positions (c, 1b, 2b, 3b, ss, 3of, and 2util).

This is a good link, however it doesnt exactly match your roster settings. Food for thought at least.

I did an article on this last year. I used a deeper league than yours in mine but it's the same general idea. You could just use the stats from your league last year and get a rough estimate from that.

On closer inspection of your post, being that you play H2H, target drafting is kinda pointless I guess. Your chances of winning depend too much on the opponent you play any given week.

For h2h I draft power bats and power arms, I'm looking for HRs/RBIs/Runs from the bats and from the arms I want to draft starters with good Ks 170-200/3.5era/1.2whip and saves from relief and I'm not particular to their other numbers. Average/Stolen bases/Wins are too fickle on a weekly basis for me to worry about during a h2h draft.

Good luck and welcome to the Cafe ;-D

Ya, definitely doesn't work the same way in h2h. Ayebatter is pretty dead on.

Nicely stated ayebatter. I'm using that myself! Too often I find myself drafting for my H2H the same way I draft for my roto.

And Zach, welome to the Cafe! By finding this place, you've instantly improved your chances of winning this season.

Thanks for all the reply's. I actually play one H2H and one Rotisserie league, so I'll try and go for the stats in the Rotisserie, and go a little different for the H2H. From what I saw in the first link, for a 12 team Rotisserie with standard 5x5 scoring, I should look to accumulate:

.270 AVG
190 Hrs (19 per)
770 RBI (77 per)
780 (78 per)
140 (14 per)

and

3.54 ERA
1.21 WHIP
1,330 K's (190 per)
105 W's (15 per)
101 Saves (33 per)

These numbers look a little low. I played on yahoo last year and when the season ends they lock the leagues so I can't go back and see the stats from last year. If anyone played in a 12 man standard 5x5 league last year, that wasn't on yahoo, would you mind going back and just looking at the stats for me and posting in here? That would be extremely helpful.

I also wanted to thank you all for welcoming me. This is a great site and it's already been very helpful.

You can go back and look at the stats from last yr on Yahoo, just log into your fantasy profile and you'll be able to pull up any league you've been in.

It's not there for me, maybe I'm doing something wrong? I went back, and I'm at my league home page from last year. All that's there is Standings, Final Rosters, Draft, and Settings. There's no where to look at the team stats. During the season there is an option to the right of the Standings to see all the teams stats, and all the teams record for each stat category, It's not there anymore though.
