Would like him as my #2, not my #1 -- this VERY SLOW MOCK draft has valued pitching higher than Im used to seeing in 14 team leagues, which is a pre-season lesson to note, I guess. I tend to "wait" on SP, but got dinged for it a little here, but think it will still work out... time will tell, but I can't see why Shields shouldn't win 15-16 games/ 200 ks and 3.50 era/ 1.18 whip sounds right, no?
I think I like the fact that he's been a workhorse the last 5 years having pitched over 200 ip and has a very below the radar power arm, with over 220k's the last 2 years on average and with an up and coming young infield - decent pen in KC; im starting to really like the make-up. again, not my ideal #1 -- but I'm ok with it in the early 100's.

If he can keep his walks down he will be a #1 SP for sure. That's a big if though... Right now I feel safe with him as a #2, especially in a 14 team league. I know he is a slow starter though, and would start him with caution in April.

So we are now at the end of round 8... Is everybody happy with their team thus far? I would feel good about my team about a third of the way through the draft. However, this is where it gets interesting, because fantasy leagues are won and lost in the middle rounds of the draft.

I'm pretty happy so far, my team looks about like I would expect after 8 rounds - 6 hitters and a couple of starters. I've been able to fill in some shallower positions without having to reach I didn't think. The only pick I regret at all is Felix. I debated between him and Price and for the life of me couldn't tell you why I went Felix. Not a bad pick, but even my rankings have him below Price.
All in all, I think we've put together a pretty solid draft so far; I don't think we've seen any terrible picks and only a couple that caused any debate at all.

I especially like Ayebatter's team and draft philosophy in this specific setup. Every turn you take one or two players in my next top 3. My team is pretty unspectacular so far. I have some holes to address and don't feel comfortable saying that in round 8.
Team Izzy C Mauer 1 E5 2 Cano 3 ARam S Rollins CI LaRoche MI Altuve O Melky, Pagan, Morse, Hunter, Ruggiano SP Lee, Fister, Estrada, McCarthy, Lohse RP Chapman, Jansen, Frieri, Fujikawa Bench 1 Hart S Cabrera O Eaton U Ortiz P Marcum P Miller P Fernandez
Overall so far I like my team. My teams strength so far is its power, HR & RBI, all my guys drafted so far are 20 plus HR and 75 plus RBI guys IMO. Batting average so far is pretty solid, I have nobody that will completely kill me in that category, yet . With that being said I am a little weak in the stolen base category, but those are things I like to fill in late or find guys throughout the year for cheap steals.
As far as pitching goes...well I had planned to take Shields or Moore with my next pick and they were both snatched up so that was a bummer. But I feel like I can build a decent staff with Darvish and Medlen.
