Should you ever keep a pitcher???

Postby jmolnar1 » Sat Jan 19, 2013 8:50 am

I get to keep 3 in a 10 man h2h league. We have 2 new ppl joining, so they will grab the top 6 available players off the board before i even get a chance to draft

Hitting categories: R,HR,RBI,SB,K,FPCT,AVG,OBP,SLG

Pitching categories: W,SV,K,ERA

Verlander,
Pujols,
Ian Kinsler,
Hanley Ramirez,
Ian Desmond,
Carlos Gonzalez,
Giancarlo Stanton

I'm for sure keeping Pujols, but i was leaning towards CarGo and Hanley because of the position eligibility. Shortstop is also soo thin. I am a tigers fan and I'm torn about keeping a pitcher when hitters account for more points and you only typically use a pitcher once every 5 days, but is Verlander worth keeping? Please help!

This is a great decision to have. Can really lose no mattter which way you go. Verlander is a great choice for a keeper, but in your league, I would go all hitters

In a shallow league I'm taking the three 1st rounders:

Verlander
Pujols
CarGo

Wow, tough decision because if there is one P to ever keep its Verlander and it doesnt help your a fan.

Go with your gut man, winning is fun and even more fun when you doing with you favorite player.....

that said; I'd keep 3 hitters :-)

Verlander, Pujols and CarGo are all top picks in such a shallow league. You have to keep those three and with the two new additions getting to pick the remaining top six before the draft, I like having one top pitcher just in case one of them (or both) decide to scoop up all pitchers.

Worst case scenario is you go into the season with those three. Best case scenario is after the draft, someone desperately needs a 1B and you can work out a deal to move Pujols for two or more pieces.

It is definitely a great problem to have.

I'd keep Verlander, Pujols, and Stanton. Verlander is more consistent than Hanley at this stage. Besides this is supposed to be fun- your a Tigers fan- don't overthink it. I like Stanton better than Cargo- i think he'll have a better year.

With the offensive stats including K's and Fpct I'd give Cargo a leg up there, not to speak of the roster Stanton will have to hit in.

Pujols
Cargo
Stanton

You know though Pujols did start to show some regression. He might even slip in drafts. I think you stand a better shot of redrafting Hanley though. Though I've always loved Han Ram.

This. Who cares about position, it is a ten team league. You keep the best players regardless of where they play. Like I said in another post, I would think about keeping Stanton over Pujols though. Pujols is in decline and Stanton on the way up. Maybe keep Pujols and then deal him after the draft though.
