Trade Wainwright for Hanson, two closers?

Postby BeSquare » Wed Jan 16, 2013 8:23 pm

20 team 5X5 keeper league. Only closer on my roster is Storen, and thought I was okay until Soriano signing. Then get offer of THanson, Wilhelmsen, & GHolland for my AWainwright. REally don't want to go into draft without any closers. Do I make the deal??
A bad three minutes at the auction can cost you three months worth of research!

I would do it. I like Wainwright better than Hanson but Hanson could be really good if he gets it together. Plus you get two good relievers. I would do it.

please help

I am looking for a big year from Wainwright, so if you could try someone else???

If you cannot, it would definitely help your team because Storen is toast, and those two closers should be very stable

One thing to remember is the volatility of the closer role---you could easily pick up new closers down the road without losing an ace

leery of this deal for you sorry

I know how hard it can be to find closers in a 20 team league. You don't need to sacrifice a sure thing like Wainwright for any closer. I don't like Hanson at all. That shoulder is a ticking time bomb. I want no part of this.

I like the closers but not Hanson, can you work in another pitcher from him? Otherwise I might have to say no. Remember, 12-14 closers appear each year on the wire.

No way I would do this trade. Wainwright is light years ahead of Hanson in value, and the way he pitched last year makes me think something might be wrong physically. Closer volatility is such that you should be able to find one or two in your draft, even in a deep league. At the very least you can grab two arms from the same pen if the closer role is undecided. At any rate, it's not worth trading an upper-level starter like Waino for closers unless you're getting Kimbrel back in a deal.

Agreed. Plus look at the two closers you are getting. Neither one of them had the closer job at the start of the season last year which should tell you that there are closers to be found. I would rather take a risk at trying to get one later then do this deal. Worst comes to worst, deal Wainwright for a closer after the draft.

I see Wainwright getting back to his old self which is a perennial top 10 SP.

Holland is a solid arm, but not sold on Wilhelmson repeating...Hanson..well too much risk here. I'd just look to deal for a true established closer...

Holland also has a lot of competition should he falter in the slightest an Ogando etc is right there waiting. And there are a few decent arms left in FA (Brian Wilson amongst others that could come in and close on a FA signing you know.)

IT is too early to shoot for closers. I'd wait until the draft pick up some upside MRP arms that have a good shot at closing or acquire an extra upside mid rotation starter and deal for an established closer a little closer to start of business.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
