I'm in a 12 team keeper league, 7x5 roto. (We also use doubles and triples)
Traded my way to the title last year and now I have too many good, but not great keeper options. We have to keep 7 players and at least 2 have to be pitchers. But don't really want to keep more than 2 pitchers anyway since there are more offensive cats.
For sure I'm keeping Braun, Pedroia and Adam Jones. After than I need 2 more from the following: C. Santana A. Craig Aramis Ramirez Rios (Great numbers, but so up and down one season to the next) BJ Upton.
Thinking I don't really want to keep Upton AND Santana, since they both have batting average issues, but the may be my best option.
Also keeping Cliff Lee and need to pick on more pitcher from the following: Halladay Gallardo Dickey Latos Medlen
Without knowing who is going to be (or possibly be) available it makes this kind of question hard, but I think I would go with Rios and Craig. Rios is 20/20 with a high average and plays in a great hitters park. Craig can rake, will have a full time job and qualifies at both 1B and OF giving you flexibility. I don't like Upton this year moving to Atlanta.
For the pitchers, yes I would keep Lee and the second would be Medlen easily.
For the hitters I'll go Craig and Upton. I know people are down on Upton because of his avg, but he's a good source of HR and SB.
As for the pitchers. I really like Gallardo, very underrated. He's going to eat up innings, get you 200+ strikeouts like he's done the past 4 seasons and just about to turn 27 hitting his prime, I do believe out of those pitchers he's as close as a sure thing as you're going to get, you really don't know what you're gonna get with the other SP. Final SP keeper is between Halladay and Medlen. If it were me, I'll roll with old Doc and sell high as soon as I can.lol he just can't be as bad as last season right? But I understand taking Medlen over him, especially in a keeper.
The pitchers are tough. I have all of those guys around the same spot. I feel that Latos is the safest choice if you want someone that will produce THIS season and carry keeper value. Dickey or Doc for 2013. Medlen if you're feeling a little crazy.
If it is a 1 catcher league you don't need a keeper C. With 2 OF keepers already I'm going Craig & A Ram; Medlen is certainly going to be the sexy pick but most of these SP are in the same tier
Pitchers, give me Halladay. Very risky pick but I still think he get close to his old self and that is well worth gambling on. If not then give me Latos or Gallardo with me leaning towards Gallardo. Gotta love that he has struck out over 200 over the past 4 years. Latos isn't far behind that but enough that it makes a difference to me.
