Hi all! I'm looking to shed some salary ahead of my draft. I have come up with a potential trade that looks very lopsided at first blush, but when you really analyze it and also factor in the future ramifications, maybe it could work. Please let me know your thoughts:
Pujols - 25 Upton -21 or Kinsler 18
For
Anthony Rizzo -4 Yeonis Cespedes - 14 Jason Kipnis - 12
I feel like a trade is in here somewhere, I just need to find it. Thanks again for any help/suggestions!
Mig Cabrera - 34 McCutchen - 26 C Hamels - 26 A Pujols - 25 J Upton - 21 J Weaver - 20 CC Sabathia - 19 I Kinsler - 18 C Kimbrel - 18 J Reyes - 17 N Cruz - 15 B Lawrie - 13 J Papelbon - 13 M Latos - 13 I Kennedy - 12 N Swisher - 11 B McCann - 9 A Bailey - 6 K Morales - 4 E Frieri - 1 E Young - 1 E Cabrera - 1 C Janssen - 1 T Wilhelmsen - 1
That's an awful trade man lol, I understand wanting to cut some payroll but you at least have to get back something more of a sure thing. I mean look at who you're giving up, sure you save money but still you're taking a huge risk. What if Rizzo/Kipnis bomb? You for sure have some trade bait, but slow down with this trade.lol If it were me and I was looking to cut money, I'll probably look at moving someone like Hamels.
If you're going to slash salary, shed some of that pitching. Shop Weaver and Sabathia around. Also shop around Cruz, he's guaranteed on trip to the DL and I wouldn't be surprised if he had two. I would also throw Kimbrel's name around, I don't pay for saves as it's a highly volatile stat.

Trimming salary is one thing, but you are trading away far too much talent for too little proven results in return. Don't do this. As a previous poster said, I'd consider moving Weaver, or especially Sabathia. Or perhaps just Pujols on his own. Pairing Albert with Upton or Kinsler is way too much.
Agreed. Sabathia, Weaver & Kimbrel are the guys that I would look to move as they will be the easiest ones to replace. I like the idea of targeting Cespedes & Rizzo though. You should certainly be able to to work something out involving those players (assuming that the other owner wants pitching).

Package Sabathia and Kimbrel (I wouldn't move Weaver unless he won't go for Sabathia) and you should easily be able to land all three of those guys you were aiming for.
