Zobrist or Chapman

Postby EvilEmpire02 » Wed Jan 02, 2013 10:02 pm

In my league we can keep 13 players. I narrowed it down to 14:

1B - Albert Pujols
2B - Jason Kipnis
SS - Ben Zobrist
3B - Miguel Cabrera
OF - Jason Heyward
OF - Carlos Gonzalez
OF - Hunter Pence
UTIL - Nelson Cruz
UTIL - Mark Texeira

Cole Hamels
David Price
Jered Weaver
Madison Bumgarner
Arnoldis Chapman

My question is who should I drop Zobrist or Chapman? I am leaning towards dropping Zobrist because Chapman's K's are ridiculous, but I am already keeping four other pitchers so I'm not sure if I would be better off keeping Zobrist with his 2B, SS, and OF eligability. Chapman may become a starter this year and I think that may hurt him in the upcoming season. What do you guys think?

At this point, I would actually keep both Zobrist and Chapman over Pence. You already have a nice OF with Heyward, CarGo and Cruz. This scenario would change if you later find that Zobrist does not qualify at SS. Either way, i think Zobrist gives you more flexability. Chapman will be interesting this season with the potential of moving to SP. Either way, he should still have plenty of tradability before the season starts if you choose not to continue with him.

Over all, keep Zobrist and Chapman. Dump Pence.

Between Zobrist or Chapman, I keep Zobrist. I believe he will have SS eligibility this year in most formats, which will make him an excellent keep. I like Chapman, but his arm "fatigue" or however they were trying to camoflauge it as at the end of last year worries me a little. Also you already have 4 stud pitchers so I would rather keep the bat.

If two players are seemingly close in value, always keep the hitter over the pitcher.

I would definitely keep Zobrist due to flexibility and concerns about Chapman's role. I'm not Dusty Baker's biggest fan so there's that, I'm just not sure what they are going to do with him.

I would not drop Zobrist and don't think dropping Pence is good idea.

If you are dying to keep Chapman, I'd drop Cruz before those two above.

Chapman with Dusty in charge is the one to drop, keep hitters above Ps

good luck

That's what I'm thinking too. I'd gamble on Chapman in a keeper over Pence or Cruz.

I'd either drop Pence of Kipnis, actually. Kipnis was great to start the year last year, but completely collapsed in the second half. Just look at this ...
1st Half: .277, 11 HR, 20 SB
2nd Half: .233, 3 HR, 11 SB

He could end up being a complete bust.If you want to check your own predictions, and see how they translate into fantasy value, check out this iPhone app i made http://www.FanValueApp.com It uses a variation on the "fantasy value above replacement" from FanGraphs. Let me know what you think

This is 14 and solid I guess. Tex/Cruz/Pence I'd be packaging those 3 for an upgrade to a stud OF-3 (mabye JUp) and maybe toss in mid tier closer like a Putz, Paps, Rodney.
