Hey fellas, I have just aquired Dickey in my AL only league. I was woundering if this guy is a keeper in an AL only format. We are a 8 team 5x5 AL only. We are allowed to keep 4 players each year.I currently have the following players as my choices...Miggy(locked in), Granderson(locked in) Adam jones, rios, v-mart and now I have dickey....Standered 5x5 cats roto league...thanks fellas
My guess is that with 8 teams and just 4 keepers per team, there won't be a lot of SP getting kept. With only 32 players being kept overall, I have a hard time imagining anyone aside from Verlander, Strasburg, Hernandez, Kershaw, Price, Cain, and maybe one or two others getting kept. Miggy and Granderson are a good one-two combo, but I'd go offense and keep Jones and Rios too. That's three outfielders already, though. How many OF do you have to start?
In the draft I'd much rather target someone like Wainwright than Dickey anyway. Dickey is too much of a risk, and with just the most elite players getting kept you want some assurances.
Whether a guy is a keeper or not, always comes down to your choices, not necessarily how talented said player is.
Given your choices, i keep Dickey.
Miggy, Grandy, Jones a given.
I don't trust Rios myself. VMart could rebound, but comes with a lot of risk also.
I could see VMart over Dickey, but Dickey has has 3 good years, not 1. And age isn't a big factor with knuckle ballers, except maybe a slight drop in innings.

This. In an 8 team league, I would bet a lot of teams don't keep SP but bottom line is you have to keep the four best players and Dickey is one of your four best keepers.

Yep, I agree with Hootie as well. He is not the best SP keeper candidate, but he has more value than Rios or Martinez.
I DO believe that VMart is a great "under the radar" kind of player this year, if he can be kept really cheaply. I picked him up at the end of last season with the intention of making him a money-saving keeper bat.
Well the boston red sox had screwed up my rebuilding season, I had first made a deal 2 months in for Agon, then about 3 weeks later I made a trade for miggy. I had grandy from the following year and I drafted jones in the second round of our draft. So I was ready for the following year, trading away peices to teams for top notch protectables, Right, well not so fast...The sox dealt away gonzo, So about a week before trade deadline I traded for rios(I tried for other players but teams were holding on to there top guy's) Then I picked up vmart as a fall back option, because he missed the year I was hoping that he would be very cheap...All set right...nope...AA goes and deals my rookie keeper d'naurd for dickey....ahhhh I was all set with vmart being my forth until this trade happened...oh well, this is what I love about fantasy baseball....thanks for the rplies fellas....
