Trade in prospect league

Postby edozedo » Sun Dec 16, 2012 11:30 am

I need a little help evaluating a trade in a league that utilizes prospects. My team is near the cap limit, so I need to move Cuddyer at $8 million per year. The offer is

Mike Carp 1B/OF $300,000 (2016)
Daniel Murphy 1B/2B $300,000 (2013)
J.A. Happ SP--$300,000 (2014)
Cole DeVries SP--$300,000 (2017)
Byron Buxton OF

for

Austin Jackson OF--$300,000 (2015)
Michael Cuddyer OF--$8,000,000 (2013)
Austin Romine C

I don't know exactly how your league works, but I'd be hesitant on trading Austin Jackson when it seems like his price tag is very low. And you really aren't getting much in return. Byron Buxton should be good, but he's a long way from the majors.

Thanks. My issue is that I am up agasint the cap. This deal looked appealing, bexcause I am minus a 1B, 2B, and a SP right now. I think that having another set of eyes has made me realize how lopsided this is.

Glad you said no. Hurts that you are up against the cap but I would explore some other options before you make a deal for a bunch of middle of the road players.

I agree. What does the rest of your roster look like? Maybe there is someone else that you could move. At that cost Cuddyer is going to carry negative trade value.

Don't trade Jackson at such affordable money unless you're getting someone else (maybe someone a little unproven but with a huge ceiling) for affordable money, too. If you're up against the cap you could just take the best offer you get for Cuddyer alone. No need to lose two good players while getting little help in return. Might as well just toss Cuddyer away to anyone who will take him if you're that tight.

Trade Cuddyer for a pick and pass on this. If you HAVE to just drop him if you can't find a taker and take any kind of compensation if your league allows it.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
