Ideas to make long season more interesting?

change to h2h instead of roto. Roto is just brutal if you are in the bottom half of the league. Paying money out in different ways to keep people interested is one option or you could just make the change to h2h. On a day to day or week to week, h2h is just easier to keep a whole league active.

It can be, but that's where our league's negative trophy has been quite a motivator. Nobody wants to win "IT"!

maybe what I am doing this year would be a good idea for some..

I run 10 team $50 buy-in H2H Cats League with the winners of the playoffs geting 300, 150, 50.. and a $10 per team side pot to pay out $100 to the Winner of Roto.. so its like our league is the best of both worlds.. and the difference between the 2 styles is big enough that it could keep people interested throughout..

I did a mock roto ranking at the end of last year.. just for curiosity (which sparked the sidepot idea) and the team who was ranked 7th in H2H Rankings and missed the playoffs was 3rd in Roto

I have to make sure payout incentives lean more heavily for H2H because thats the league I want to run and Don't want owners just picking a side.. Last year the team that won the whole thing would have won Roto as well .. extra 100 dollars..

anyway thats what I am doing this year .. but I am always looking for good ideas to make things more interesting.. any H2H ideas out there?

Thank you everyone for their suggestions. I think I decided I want to do a H2H (using the same roto categories) double elimination playoff system on the side. I would use the below links structure, which takes 7-8 weeks, and would likely start the first Monday in August.

I have 12 teams, so the payouts would be
1st Roto - $250
2nd Roto - $150
3rd Roto - $50
1st H2H Playoff - $75
2nd H2H Playoff - $50
3rd H2H Playoff - $25

Does anyone know of a good way to be able to see the head to head matchups as they're happening without creating a 2nd h2h league, and manually changing all of the moves?

You'll have to manually track it via excel or maybe Google docs. I would recommend against creating a 2nd league and setting the lineups. The amount of labor you'd have to put into it for 6 months would be like having a second job. Especially if it's a daily league.

I use exel to keep track of the ROTO side .. and have the league H2H. Doing it the other way around seems very hard.
