Bruce for Gordon/Bauer?

Postby pdb12210 » Mon Dec 10, 2012 1:35 pm

The owner that has basically been running my league for the past four years really wants Jay Bruce off me. His most recent offer was Bruce for Alex Gordon and Trevor Bauer. I really do like Bruce and am not super high on Bauer, so I'm leaning toward no, but I'm not sure what to negotiate back with. I need more pitcher depth mainly. This is his team (warning-it's ridiculous):

12 team league, full dynasty
C,1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF, OF, OF, Util, 3 P, 2 SP, 2 RP, 14 bench

C: Montero, Avila
1B: Pujols, Gonzalez, Belt
2B: Pedroia, Weeks
3B: Zimmerman, Machado
SS: Reyes, Escobar
OF: Heyward, McCutchen, Gordon, Cruz, Dom Brown, Hicks
SP: Strasburg, Zimmerman, Lee, Wainwright, J Johnson, Garza, Beachy, Bauer, C Martinez
RP: Kimbrel, Perez, Marmol, Janssen

And mine:

C: Santana (1B), Salty
1B: Trumbo (OF), Carp, C. Lee (OF), Moreland (OF)
2B: Kinsler, Ackley (1B)
SS: Castro
3B: Freese, Youk (1B)
OF: Braun, Bruce, Bautista (3B), Gardner, Quentin
SP: Kershaw, Price, Hanson, Cahill, Luebke, Worley, Norris
RP: Axford, Madson, Cook, Balfour, Romo, Hernandez, Downs, Matusz (SP)

I was thinking about targeting J Zimmerman, Gordon, maybe Belt, or maybe Bauer (but not the Bauer/Gordon combo obviously)

Any suggestions for a counter-offer? WHIR

I'd pass. I'm also not that high on Bauer.

Clearly don't accept the Gordon/Bauer trade.

I don't see many counters that would improve your team and he would accept.

Your main problem with dealing Bruce would be replacing him. Quentin should never touch your starting 3. Gardner has a lot to prove before being considered. Gordon is acceptable, but I would much rather have Bruce. So if you can get Gordon+Zimmerman+Beachy, I'd do the deal. But I highly doubt he'd be willing to go that steep. My main concern is that your league starts only 36 OFs (12 teams, 3 OF), so an elite OF is very valuable because there should be plenty mediocre guys on benches.

Thanks for the input!

Those are exactly my reservations about giving up Bruce, I just don't feel comfortable with my replacements, which is why an OF would have to come back to me in a trade (although a healthy Gardner is pretty important to my team in terms of steals). The problem is, offensively I have been at or near the top of the leaderboard in almost every category the past few years, while I fall behind in a lot of the pitcher categories, especially QS. You don't feel like Bruce for Gordon/Zimmerman is enough? (I personally feel like I would still lose there, but I am usually too conservative in trades and overvalue my players too much. A friend of mine tells me I'd be crazy not to do it for Gordon/Zim)

Not sure I would do the deal either but if you did it would be for Gordon and Zimmermann. If you have been a top offense then it would probably do you good to deal some of that off for some help at SP which seems to be kind of weak. Really after Kershaw and Price you have nothing but question marks. So I think I would try and get Gordon and Zimmermann.
