Dickey? I would be much happier had the Royals landed Zack Wheeler and/or Matt Harvey.
Royals better win now to justify this trade. If they don't show any improvement this year (and I'm not talking about one game improvement BS) Shields is walking after the '14 season. If that happens, what the hell to the Royals have to show for it?
Not a fan of this trade at all.

Yeah, this is a mindbender
Myers may have been enough on his own, but obviously giving the market for pitching and interest for Shields I could see one of the other guys thrown in. What a great deal for the Rays. Montgomerys stock may have fallen a bit but still has tremedous upside AND Odirizzi AND Patrick Leonard..great job Freidman

Aside from Shields being close to FA, as rotoworld pointed out (believe it was their blurb) only one pitcher has thrown more innings than him the past few years. Probably bound for an injury. Not sure how much including Wade Davis required more prospects coming back but at least they should have stopped at shields to keep some more pitching in house

Shields has been a top 10 pitcher in baseball (and better than the guy who just get 150M from the Dodgers over the last two seasons). It was never going to be cheap to acquire two years of him. I suspect if he was more of a name guy, the Royals wouldn't be getting the same kind of negative reaction here.
The Royals better be going all-in to win now, though. They'll need to still make a few more improvements to win the Central (even as bad as it is). This is a lot of future to give up otherwise.
