Draft twist..

Postby KDOGG » Wed Dec 05, 2012 10:12 am

hey guys,

I'm in a new start-up league where we draft 2 MLB organizations and then pick 8 MLB keepers with their contracts and 40 MILB keepers from the combined 2 teams to start the league off with. Kind of a unqiue twist.

Anyway, I thought I'd come to the cafe to ask you guys how you would rank the organizations in a draft such as this.

I really like seattle because of all of their low-cost up and coming young MLB players combined with their top 3 minor league system but I wanted to see what you guys though as well.

Any ideas or rankings would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

How many MLB keepers are on Seattle? You need 8 from 2 teams.
Felix and Montero really the only 2 keepers.
I would go Texas myself, great MLB keepers, and great prospects.

Smoak, Ackley, Seager, Guttierez ?

And they all have relatively cheap salaries.

Hootie would you care to put together like a top 10 of organizations?

I already have my list but I'd be curious to see how other people rank them.

Thanks!

I like Kyle Seager & Erasmo Ramirez a lot too. The Seattle bullpen is young and loaded as well. Seattle's future looks promising with their wave of prospects coming soon, but the MLB level is still a little baron.

I would imagine that Texas would be the most attractive for the reasons that Hootie mentioned. Daniels has done a fantastic job putting that team together. The Cardinals would have to be right up there too. Of the top 50 prospect lists that I've looked at lately ... they all seem to be littered with Cardinals.

Ackely/Seager ok, but Guti is all glove, and Smoak hits .230.

Do you use 2012 or 13 salaries?
You more concerned with money or talent?
What is the minimum or maximum your 8 can have?

Nats have 4 guys at about 19 mil

Well obviously talent prevails but I always try to keep an eye on the bottom line. I think with 40 Minor leaguers already taken after we pick our teams, minor league organization strenth is a huge factor.

FYI we are using 2013 salaries and the roster freeze as soon as the draft starts(prob friday) meaning any unsigned players, Hamiltom, Swisher etc arent on rosters and automatically go into the FA pool.

Other teams I also like: TOR, BOS, SEA, STL, CHC, SD, and MIN but their Major league roster isn't that strong
