Why Votto over Kemp?
Kemp is younger, and can steal 30+

Rios had a career year, and Ethier can't hit lefties, and power has dropped.
Myers seems like a easy keep.

Kemp is having surgery on his shoulder next month. He is primarily an upper body swinger. I could see him struggle through the first half of the season. That's assuming that he'll be ready right out of the gate.

Votto is a much safer choice to post 1st round production. Kemp is more of a boom or bust pick.

Thank you everyone for their response! This is going to be an on-going debate since Hamilton hasn't signed and Myers just got traded! I'm really between Kemp and Votto though...guess you can't go wrong with either.

I'd go with Votto. Kemp was a close second but Votto to me is more consistent.

Couldn't agree more. I'd give slight consideration to Kemp considering you have Fielder, but I'd still go Votto.

In a vaccuum I go Votto here. However, you already have Fielder as a 1B and perhaps David Ortiz at 1B/Util. Seems like Votto really creates a log jam.

Perhaps you could work out a pre draft trade arrangement. If not I may lean towards Kemp because he will just fit your team better.

This should be a concern and the top reason to pick Votto. Shoulder surgery is well known to cut down a players power. I would be fine trying to make a predraft deal or grab Votto and make a deal after the draft.

Votto is your guy IF your team keepers weren't the way that they are, I think you should definitely go for Kemp (risk/reward man) do it!

These 6 (take the extra pick instead of a middling keeper - I would think about NOW and FUTURE, and go with Kemp you need a big bat in your OF that is a legit top contender. Middlebrooks is no slouchy 3b and he had a GREAT season for such a young inexperienced player I can only see him trending upward. His quietly solid season is lost in the love for MCab, Lawrie, Beltre etc. Papi is one of my all time faves but I'm beginning to think time will catch up with him. I'd throw him back and take a better bat for your SS/2b slot with that extra pick if one is available if not then take Ortiz and draft Kemp.
