ok first i need to explain our league rules. you can keep a maximum of 20 keepers (25 man rosters), no more, but less if u want. u can only keep players that have been drafted in past seasons, thus u cannot keep players that u picked up. u can keep players u traded for as long as they were drafted in past seasons. then theres a 5 round keepable draft (so that the 25 man rosters get filed). anyone with room on their team after that draft gets to draft in a separate draft, but these players are unkeepable at the end of the season (basically like waivers).
Here's my team prior to the draft (i need to say that it took a couple losing seasons and a lot of trading to get it where it is today):
C Santana 1b Hosmer 2b Phillips 3b Lawrie ss Reyes of Trout of Harper of Stanton of Heyward util Rios util Moustakas be David Ortiz be Swisher
sp Strasburg sp Bumgarner sp Cueto sp Matt Moore sp Gallardo rp Hanrahan rp be be be be be
total of 19 players and I traded away all of my picks in this years draft except a 2nd rounder (22nd overall).
This is the proposal:
I get Scherzer, 3rd round pick this year
I give Moustakas
I'm torn on what to do. Moose Tacos could be great, but I already have Lawrie. I'd like to get more picks so this deal would help. But is Scherzer the real deal, I dont know. he sure was down the stretch and the playoffs. Mous is still only 24. Please help. WHIR!! Thanks.
I think i would pass. It is very close but Scherzer is an enigma and can be very frustrating to own. I am not sold that he has taken a step forward. I think i would wait and see what Moustakas does this year and then deal one of your 3B then.

Yes but nothing else really got better with Scherzer over previous years. His BB/9 is still high, his HR rate was about the same, his GB% did go down though. He was horrible the first half and he was dominate the second half. Such is the life of Scherzer. He has his down days and then comes back and strikes out 15. I own him in a dynasty league and he has been on that verge of being a #2 SP but he doesn't give you the consistency you would want.
I still think Moustakas has 30+ HR power with ok but not great other numbers. Again it is close but I will take the hitter right now, I just need to see it again from Scherzer.

Scherzer's arm worries me a little. There was a lot of talk in the media about how they were handling him in the playoffs because they thought his arm might be shot. With the way he throws and the strikeouts, I think there might always be the concern about arm fatigue and durability.
That being said having Scherzer as your 5th or 6th starter is just gravy. But I get the feeling that you may be making this deal just to make a deal and might be better off waiting and maybe combining Moose with something to get a more useful return for your team.
I think that I would pass also. I am not super high on either player, but I would rather bank on the improvement of Moustakas than Hitler finding some consistency. He's one of those guys that suckers you in every year, but ultimately stabs you in the back.
Perhaps you can get a decent arm for Ortiz or Swisher?

How can you not be a little high on Max, who is clearly in the 2nd tier of SP. A career K/9 over 9, with 11+ last year. Moose is a career .250 hitter, with a terrible .301 oba. He might hit 25+ hrs, but that's about it from him. He looks like a slightly better version of Mark Reynolds.
How is 16 wins, a 3.74 era (unlucky), and 231 K's a stab you in the back? His season was better then Gallardos or Darvish.

I ended up trading Moustakas for Scherzer, the 3rd rounder, and the guy included a 5th as well. I drafted Plouffe with the 3rd, and Xander Bogaerts with the 5th. So:
