Juan Pierre is yet another reason why waiting on steals is more than okay at the draft table, and why I target high power, run, rbi type players with my early picks/big purchases, rather than pay the premium 5 tool players bring. (especially players whose value is really tied up in SB's)
My early projections for Juan Pierre are as follows:
535 AB - 80 Runs - 1 Hr - 45 RBI - 38 SB - .301BA
That's a $10 player in 12 team mixers with 5 OF, MI CI, 1 UTIL spot, yet my guess is he'll go for a fraction of that price. Instant value.
My target for SB's in this type of league is 149. Juan Pierre will provide 25% of my target for not very much cash on draft day. Sign me up!

I was having a "discussion" with another member yesterday, who was comparing waiting on SB's like this, to waiting for guys like Reynolds/Pena for power. Completely different story, yet he would not back down on his stance that it's pure fallacy you can get SB's late WITHOUT hurting the rest of your team.
Oh well, our gain I suppose

Waiting on steals is one thing. It's only 1 category. Waiting on power is another. Every year there are steals guys that come out of the woodwork after the all-star break. I loaded up on power in one of my leagues. I had a projected total of 55 steals of the entire season. After additions like Pierre, Campana and Everth Cabrera .... I did quite well in the category.

I still wouldn't want to rely on a guy that gives you almost no RBI or HR and hope the rest of the team picks up the slack. Even at those projections he's not more than a $7 player. We are talking about a 35 year old .297 singles hitter who has more career steals than RBI. Not someone I'm going to open the wallet for. 2, 3 bucks maybe sure. As a 4th OF at best.
