Is it time to trade Justin Upton?

Postby diesek » Sat Nov 03, 2012 2:58 am

Hi I am playing in a Dynasty League and have been offered the following trade:

Will Myer and Eric Hosmer for Justin Upton.

I have the following roster:

C - Carlos Santana
1B - Billy Butler, Joey Votto, Adrian Gonzalez
2B - Johnny Giavotella, Rickie Weeks
3B - Ryan Zimmerman
SS - Alcides Escobar, Elvis Andrus
OF - Justin Upton, Ichiro Suzuki, Desmond Jennings, Carl Crawford

SP - Homer Bailey, Tommy Hanson, Jordan Zimmerman, Cole Hamels, Jeremy Hellickson, David Price, Tim Lincecum
RP - Joel Hanrahan, Matt Capps, Andrew Bailey, Carlos Marmol, Drew Storen

Let me know what you think about the trade. Many thanks

In a dynasty league that's close, but I wouldn't pull the trigger. This would be selling low on Upton to some extent, and you're also giving up the best player in the deal. Upton has a history of producing at an elite level; Hosmer and Myers don't. Plus, neither one profiles as a true 5-tool talent.

It may seem like Justin Upton's been around forever, but the reality is that he just finished his age 24 season.

Hell no. After this year why would you want Hosmer? Cmon. Upton is young and a stud. He was in a funk for awhile but he seemed to come around 2nd half a little more. I love trying to grab Upton for cheap though so Nice job to the guy trying to rip you off.

Tempting because I believe a lot in all three but I think I stick with Upton.

That's a really tough one because all 3 are relative unknowns for next season. Hosmer had a great rookie year and terrible sophomore year. Year 3? Who knows. Upton had a couple of really solid years and then a horrid first half and only decent 2nd half this season. Myers is the classic uber-prospect who could be great right out of the gates.

I think you have to hold with Upton, OR get a little bit more out of the guy. I like the trade enough as is where if you just added a little bit to it in your favor, I would pull the trigger. Will he add someone, or can you get a slight upgrade out of him?

I agree with this. Maybe you add a second player and he adds a third player to make the deal happen. It is very close as is so another player on both sides could tip the scales.

Upton by a great margin for me. I like him a lot for next season. Hosmer has a lot of talent, but until he can beat the shift I am not planning on much from him. Myers is intriguing, but he's likely gonna be a mid-season callup. It's not like J-Up is old.

I, along with many others I'm sure, were disappointed in Upton's season last year. It's tempting to move him, but I think you continue to stick with him. He had a thumb injury earlier in the season which I think lingered all year that effected his overall numbers. Keep him. I still believe in him that the best is yet to come.
